Recipe's preparation

  1. Wash  carrots and cut off ends (no need to peel). Grate in TM 10 secs, speed 8.

Core and quarter apple (no need to peel). Add apple and garlic to carrot in TM bowl and grate for a further 5-10 secs.

Add 2 eggs. Keep remaining egg for 'egg wash'.

Add half sausage meat and half mince to TM bowl. Mix 15 seconds, speed 4-5. Add remaining sausage meat and mince and blend until mixture resembles wet sausage meat.

Slice each pastry sheet in half. Spoon meat along pastry sheet lenghways 2 cms away from one long edge. Roll that edge over and continue to roll but stop to brush egg wash along remaining edge to seal. Continue to roll to form a long sausage roll.

    Repeat on remaining pastry sheets.

Brush along top with 'egg wash'.

Makes approximately 10 large sausage rolls but each can be cut to desired lengths. If freezing, roll in freezer plastic. Sausage rolls cut easier when half defrosted.

Bake in hot oven on 200 fan forced until golden brown.

    Serve with tomato sauce.

  • Yummo, thanks for sharing!

Yummo, thanks for sharing!  This allowed me to make heaps to freeze for those lazy nights! I accidentally bought short crust pastry at the shops so my crust was very dense and buttery (not so much of a bad thing, really!). I'll happily make this again and again. Loved by the entire family.

YUMMO! Cooked these yesterday and will now be cooking these in favour of our familiy recipe. Pretty sure they aren't any healthier them other recipes but they sure taste good! I added some sesame seeds on top just before cooking.

  • I agree with this, please and

    Submitted by spring1975 on 11. April 2013 - 21:48.

I agree with this, please and kindly keep in mind bacteria is only "killed" at extremely high 200's cel. temperature plus. You can still get food poisoning from cross contamination from cooked and raw food.   I'm a safety first/cautious person especially if  I'm not the only person eating it. tmrc_emoticons.)Love

  • My logic says that as both

    Submitted by lisaanfuso@aol.com on 11. April 2013 - 21:06.

My logic says that as both meats will be cooked (ie Pork cooked again) in the oven any bacteria that the sausage meat would contaminate pork meat with would be rendered harmless.  tmrc_emoticons.;)

  • My understanding is raw meat

    Submitted by spring1975 on 11. April 2013 - 20:28.

My understanding is raw meat should not be mixed/stored/kept with cooked meat. If you were to cook sausage mince first that would be ok (obviously both meat should be prepared at same temperature according to recipe) tmrc_emoticons.)

Hi Becca1695. I might steal that idea. Thanks. My kids love these too and won't eat frozen sausage rolls. I don't blame them. Big Smile

  • I found the 200 fan forced

    Submitted by shazzfrancis on 5. April 2011 - 19:20.

I found the 200 fan forced temperature way too hot and ended up with burnt pastry on top and soggy uncooked pastry underneath  tmrc_emoticons.(( Next time will reduce the heat by at least 20 and will combine the carrot, apple and garlic all together in the first step as my carrot was practically juiced by the time the apple and garlic had grated.

  • If you are in Perth, Richard

    Submitted by kateincottesloe on 24. March 2011 - 19:01.

If you are in Perth, Richard at Sterrett's Butcher in Freo will make additive free sausage meat for you - his grandson has severe allergies.

Otherwise, ask any good neighbourhood butcher to make it for you.  If you can buy in bulk and freeze, they're usually perfectly happy to assist.

  • Hi!  You call this healthy,

Submitted by HEALTHY HENDO on 17. March 2011 - 15:35.

Hi!  You call this healthy, but it includes sausage meat!  Do you have access to one that is not full of MSG, colours etc.  They always taste good with this included but is there an alternative, that anyone knows of??
