So easy and so delicious! As others have suggested I also only did 100g sugar and left off the topping (I just sprinkled it with some cinnamon and sugar before baking). Next time I'll add some cinnamon to the batter too. I'll be making this over and over, so yum!

This is amazing! Made GF easily, halved sugar for cake and it's plenty sweet enough. I'd suggest coring and peeling the apples, or else it needs about 20sec at speed 7.

Thank you for this recipe! Have tried this lots of times now, and it is always a hit with my dairy-free family! I substitute butter for nuttelex and buttermilk for rice milk. My favourite flavour combinations have been Apple/feojoa, Apple/zucchini, and Apple/pear. I usually lower the sugar to 100g (depending on fruit I am using).

Sensational! Super quick to whip up & tastes lovely. I reduced sugar to 50g and used raw sugar as pink lady apples were used and they’re definitely sweet enough. Added 2 tsp cinnamon & 2 tsp mixed spice to the ingredients. A real keeper - thank you x

I halfed the sugar as others suggested. I did core the apples.
I sprinkled cinnamon on top before I baked; therefore didn't go wth the topping. Fantastic cake - thank you.
I think I'll try it with pears ...

This is going to be on high rotation in this house too now!
Made it with half the amount of sugar, and peeled the apple 🍏 as I have a one year old I wanted it to be as soft as possible. I also left off all topping, just having it by itself ( my 3 and 1 year old know no different lol). Still tastes terrific. Can’t believe it is so easy, so tasty and yet healthy! Winning! Thanks for sharing 🙂

    Submitted by Polly__Page on 16. July 2018 - 11:46.

Delicious! Made this for an afternoon tea and it was a hit with everyone. I used Greek yoghurt as I didn’t have any buttermilk, peeled the apple as others suggested and also decreased the sugar. We had it without any topping (I wouldn’t worry about adding any, it was so nice as it was) and still slightly warm from the oven, yummy! I am making more to slice and freeze for lunchboxes/afternoon tea when school goes back!

Lovely loaf. I doubled the recipe (except the sugar which I kept the same, effectively halving it), chopped the apples first and then proceeded as detailed. The mixture needed a bit of help with a spatula to mix properly but it worked well. As many others have done I left out the icing, added 3 tsp cinnamon to the mixture and dusted with cinnamon sugar before baking. It was light and moist and delicious!

This apple bread is on regular rotation in our house - we love it! I add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the mix and don't bother with the topping. I often bake it in mini loaves (using a silicone mini loaf pan), it makes 10 x 1/3 cup loaves, baked for approx 25 minutes.

A great substitute for the traditional banana bread, however next time, I will peel the apples to make the texture more akin to banana bread as the skin didn't break down enough. I also reduced the sugar as I normally do & skipped the topping but was still tasty.

This was amazing! So soft and dense, the kids loved it. And, easy to make??? Far out, you gotta love a 'throw it all in' recipe  tmrc_emoticons.)  tmrc_emoticons.)

    My changes were:

    - halve the sugar to 100 g

    -100g of w/meal spelt + 50 g of buckwheat flour + 50g almond meal

    - and, I made by own buttermilk by adding a few squeezes of fresh lemon to full-fat milk.

Once out of the oven, I brushed with butter and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.

This will become a regular in our house.

I love the simplicity of this, and a great variation to banana bread which we make quite often. I haven't tried the cinnamon topping but like many others am enjoying adding cinnamon to the mix, and a tbsp of LSA (ground linseed, sunflower seed and almonds). Just scrumptious.

Whilst the cake was superb the topping wasnt our cup if tea. I ended scrapping it off as it hadn't spread evenly and was a big lumpy mass tasting of flour. I ended up throwing it out and melting brown sugar, cinnamon and butter and drizzling on top. Otherwise delish!!!!

    Submitted by Ronnirob on 8. January 2016 - 17:17.

Such an easy cake and great for using up those apples that sit in the fruit bowl a little too long. I've made it three times, once using buttermilk, once with yogurt and the last time all I had was some sour cream so I used that. They all worked beautifully. I opted for just brushing the top with butter and sprinkling with cinnamon and sugar. I think sultanas would be nice stirred through after mixing too.

Delicious and very easy! I reduced sugar to 125g and it was still very sweet so will try even less next time. I also didn't do the topping - I just added 2 tsp of cinnamon straight into the mix.  It does make quite a small loaf, so I might try doubling the recipe next time too As it went in 5 seconds flat!!!

    Submitted by Megsy13 on 13. August 2015 - 22:18.

Made this for school lunches and the bread is beautiful!  Really moist and delicious.  I chopped the apple for a few seconds beforehand after reading some of the comments.

Not sure what I did wrong with the topping though - it was not a spreadable consistency, and none of us enjoyed it - too overpowering (and we generally LOVE cinnamon as a rule!)

Will definitely make the bread again, but will maybe use a simpler topping of melted butter with a little cinnamon and sugar.

This was nice. I reduced the sugar content. It was a little gritty, maybe this is because of the apple skins? Perhaps if you peeled them that would help. But it is a lovely loaf.
