Tip

Lasts well - perfect for recess at school.

freezes well to - I cut into portions and put into a freezer bag to provide alternatives when I dont have a chance to cook a variety of snacks for lunch boxes.

I also reduce the sugar and honey sometimes to limit those in my kids diets and works just fine every time.

This has become a favourite in our house! So easy and works every time. I omit the sugar and sometimes but half choc chips, half sultanas. Kids love it!!

Made this today. Yum. Took the various suggestions from the comments. Used almonds and pepitas instead of dried fruit (son doesnt like them) and also used spelt flour and definately less sugar. Forgot the cinnamon and apple!

  • I forgot to say that instead

I forgot to say that instead of sultanas, I chopped almonds and pepitas in the Thermomix before I made the recipe. I added them instead of sultanas. They added a nice crunch to it. I won't do it for school lunches 'though.

  • I wanted to make something

    Submitted by wsutton on 13. April 2014 - 16:35.

I wanted to make something similar to the Uncle Toby's Oat Bars that my son likes.  This recipe was a great starting point.  I added one apple and 1 tsp cinnamon at the same time as the oats, halved the sugar and used spelt flour with 1 tsp baking powder.    As I poured it into the tin my son said with somewhat surprise that they smelt good.  The end result is REALLY good, not thin like a muesli bar, just a little more cake like, which is what I was after.  Thank you!!!
