( if you wish, place a few dollaps of butter on top of the filling)

    - Roll out the other half of the dough and lay over the top of the pie.

Trim the very edge and firmly press the pastry together to form a seal.

    - Cut 3 slices in the top and ( brush with melted butter or milk if desired)

sprinkle with vanilla sugar/ sugar. Bake at 180oC for around 40-50 minutes.

You can use any apples, I have even substituted for cherries.
You can 1/4 the spice or leave any spice out you dislike.
This recipe is customizable to your personal choices, is pretty bomb proof.

I was a bit wortied that I might have overloaded the apple amount but they cooked down so it worked out perfect! It received rave reviews from my husband and dad so I will definitely be making this again! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe

  • Nice.... but not quite a 5

    Submitted by heidi_hi on 3. May 2015 - 14:55.

Nice.... but not quite a 5 star pie. I think I prefer a shorter pastry for my apple pie but this was a nice recipe to work with as it was supple and easy to roll out.  The filling however was lovely. I doubled the pastry as mentioned in previous reviews and it was enough for my standard pie sized dish. I also cut back the sugar and it was plenty sweet. Oh and I chomped my apples in the thermy - didn't have time to slice by hand.

This pie is AMAZING.  I would definitely make more pastry next time, perhaps half again or double for a thicker crust.  My pastry was very thin for the size of pie dish I used.  It didn't matter though, it was delicious.

This is so yummy. I only used 80grams of brown sugar. So glad I didn't add the full amount! I also reduced thecardamon  to 1/4 tspn but that's because we are not great cardamon fans! Thanks for the tip about the pastry rolling. I'm new to this sort of thing so that was hugely helpful and successful. Thanks for sharing! tmrc_emoticons.-))

Delicious recipe with gluten free flour and lactose free butter.

However I did find that for my pie tin there wasn't quite enough pastry to stretch over the top layer and it the base did shrink quite a bit in the blind baking.

I doubled the cinnamon and nutmeg mix as I did not have any cardamon to add. I used 40g of raw sugar, and it was plenty sweet. Will probably use less or try with none next time.

Will be making again (with just a tad more pastry, probably 250g flour)
