Ingredients
0 portion(s)
Caramelised Onion
- 2 Large Onions
- 15 grams Oilve Oil.
- 2 tablespoons sugar
Dough
- 300 grams bakers flour
- 1.5 teaspoons dried yeast
- pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 185 grams warm water
- 1 teaspoon oil
Cheese
- 2 Cups Of Cheese
Recipe's preparation
Slice the 2 Large onions into thin slices, once sliced place in mixing bowl along with the 15 grams of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of sugar. I have used Coconut oil in place of the olive oil and it works exactly the same.
Cook for 30 mins on Varoma temperature on reverse speed 2.
I check half way that onion doesnt get caught around the blade and just give the bits that are stuck a stir to get an even texture.
Once cooked i set aside.
Add the bakers flour, yeast, sugar and salt, i make sure that the salt and sugar go in the other side of the bowl when i first place in mixing bowl. i then mix those dry ingredients for five seconds on speed 3.
Then add the warm water and oil to the dry ingredients and mix on speed 8 for 6 seconds.
In the closed lid position the knead for two mins. Once the kneading has finished i either turn the dough out on to a mat or into a lightly oiled bowl in a warm spot and let prove for 30 or so mins.
Once dough has proved roll out, i prefer to roll out into a rectangle shape with the dough being approx 2 cm thick.
Once rolled out i then spread the caramelised onion paste all over the dough and spread the cheese over the dough also. Once that is done i cut the dough into strips about 3-4 wide and roll them up and place in a cake tin (so that the dough part is on the side and you can see the onion and cheese, hope that makes sense)
I then baked at 180 degrees in a fan forced oven for about 20-25 mins until golden brown.

Tip
You could use any cheese really it would just change the flavour slightly, my hubby is not a fan of feta but i would love it with the feta with the saltiness from the cheese and sweetness from the onions. Enjoy

This turned out perfectly! I made half with ham and cheese for the kids and used the whole amount of caramelised onions on the other half for me and hubby. Just enough for lunch for the 4 of us. So delicious straight out of the oven - will definitely be making again!

I love this, made it twice now -by far my favourite pull apart.
I have made this three times
I have made this three times now with caramellised onion and fetta and it's a winner. The third time I made it I made the caramellised onion with coconut oil .... I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you are making the onion the day before as the coconut oil becomes solid when refrigerated. So back to olive oil I go.

Very popular bbq side. I replaced one tsp sugar with 1tsp honey, then added pinch salt and cracked pepper to make caramalised onion richer. Can't wait to try feta option!
