Recipe's preparation
Place sugar, yeast, milk and water into thermomix bowl. Set to mix for 3 minutes at 37 degrees C on speed 2. The mixture will become frothy
Add flour, salt, cream of tartar and mix for 10 seconds on speed 7
Then Mix fo 8 minutes at 37 degrees on speed 1
Leave in thermomix for about an hour - until it has nearly reached the top.
Add the baking soda and warm water and beat on speed 6 for 2 minutes.
Leave to rest for 10 minutes
Place non stick egg rings on a greased pre heated grill and using a quarter cup measure place into ring. It is important to cook slowly so that the crumpet cooks all the way through and bubbles up. This will take about 5 minutes.
Remove rings and turn over for about 30 seconds until slightly browned.
Either serve immediately with your favourite topping- mine is maple syrup - or keep warm between a tea- towell on a cake rack. You can reheat them later in the toaster or eat them cold. After you have tried these you will never buy them from the shop again.
Any left overs can be frozen and toasted - but that is unlikely.

I'm not sure what happened to mine, but I cooked them (1/3 cup) for 8 minutes in the pie maker, turned over for 2 minutes, and mine were raw in the middle.

These are amazing! First time making them and I followed the recipe to a tee.
I cooked them in my sunbeam pie maker and although it was a little time consuming it was much better than in my frypan because you don't have to worry about regulating the temperature of the pan. I cooked about 1/3 of a cup of batter for about 8 minutes before flipping them over and cooking for another 2 or 3 minutes.
Many thanks for this recipe, I will definitely be making these again and keeping some in the freezer (if they don't get eaten first!).

Fantastic recipe , they came out like store bought but BETTER 😋
I have tried many recipes and none of them came out as light & airy as these ones .
I cooked them on pan for 8 min then flipped 2 min .
(Made a lot more than these , that's all I managed to get to take photo )
will definitely make again, on my favourites list .
Best crumpet recipe 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Didn't have a great deal of luck with these. Cooked on lowest heat, used a bit less than 1/4 cup, got the bubbles, but by the time they were ready to flip they were very brown/close to burning on the bottom and not cooked through. I had to finish them in the oven to get cooked through. My toddler seemed to like them but I won't be making again

They're on the favourites list.
Did the first batch in egg rings to see how we liked them, then bought crumpet rings which meant they worked much better in the toaster!
thanks!

Followed recipe to a tee. 60 min raising in oven on proving setting - 40 degrees.
Cooked as first recipe in my Sunbeam pie maker! Experimenting with times, lid up and down. Happy with size 1/3 cup measure, though after six batches best was six minutes - side one, turn over one minute. After frozen, then cooked in toaster next day felt they would benefit from longer first cooking, will try eight minutes lid up next time.
Worked costing to be around $1 - better flavour and yield 24, so equivalent to four packets, great savings! Will definitely cook again.

Started off mucking everything up as I missed the first mix step. had no cream of tartar do used baking powder. However this mix survived being mixed after rising and then rising again. I cooked in Kogan one maker. I put about 1/4 cup at a time. This still made quite a thick crumpet. Cooked for 4 mins, then used chopsticks to flip over for another minute. Made about 30. Took about an hour to cook them all.

I made them in the sunbeam pie maker, lid open. First batch was dense and doughy but I think I used to much batter. The batter was very stretchy. After the first batch I used 1/3 cup of dough ( not filled to the top). Cooked each batch about 8 mins. When bubbles started and the crumpet was cooked through I turned them to brown them a bit. The hotter the pie maker got the better the crumpets turned out. Very yummy, but very time consuming. All up 24 crumpets

I'm in the middle of making these for the first time, and I've noticed that the step after letting it rise instructs to "beat on speed 6 for 2 mins". I haven't heard of beating before- is this just a different word for mixing, or is this something specific? I don't want to wreck the fluffiness it has by doing it wrong!

Next time though, I will have more than two egg rings so it doesn't take as long to make.
They really are so much nicer than store-bought.

Easy to make and better than any shop bought. I made them in the Sunbeam pie maker with lid up. (Trialed with lid down but no bubbles formed). Took a little while to work out quantity for each - roughly 1/3 to 1/2 cup seemed to work best.
Will definitely make again. Great when just made but just as good when toasted later. Yum!

I used four metal egg rings and greased them with butter and a little extra butter in a medium low frypan. By the time each egg ring was 3/4 full, and I cleaned off the scoop, the crumpets were set on the outside and I could remove the rings with tongs very easily. It was important to wait until the tops of the crumpets were dry before flipping, a lid on the frypan helped with this but did stop the bubbles bursting for the traditional holey crumpet look. Overall these were a winner with the family!

These were so quick and easy, and super delicious. Will never buy them again. I used the Kmart silicon egg rings, used 1/2 cup mix like suggested and they were too dense. Continued only using 1/4 cup and they were light, fluffy and perfect. Thanks for the recipe

Yum!! I made mine the night before due to it being a tad time consuming. I froze most on trays before popping in to bags, then left the rest on the bench covered overnight. Absolutely perfect toasted in the toaster. Will 100% make again (and will go buy more crumpet rings now!!) thanks for the recipe!

Really like these. Not sure if the mix was supposed to be stretchy so I’ve probably made each crumpet bigger than it should be but they turned out great. I cooked in pie maker with lid down to help cook through as my pie maker makes the larger serves. I turned them over to brown.
Yum !

I just tried them and unfortuntely we wont be making them again. Have just poured the left over batter into the bin as I couldnt keep cooking them when noone would eat them. Very dull flavour and didnt rise or have the look of a crumpet. Was more like a pale unfluffy pikelet.

I failed at these. Not sure what went wrong as I followed the recipe, took awhile to cook all the way through, and they were very heavy/doughy. Wont be rushing back to make them.

These are AMAZING ! the person that suggested cooking them in the pie maker is a legend ! I didnt have any cream of tartar so i used two teaspoons of white vinegar instead (thanks to google for that suggestion). These are quite time consuming but definitely worth it. Thanks for the recipe.

Super easy to prepare even thought they have to sit for an hour. Great for brunch. I make these and freeze them for quick school breakfasts. Children LOVE them. Cheats way to cook in the pie maker. Can leave the lid open or closed and do a quick flip at the end! Delicious.

I was so excited to try these! but the batter didn't rise? Was I meant to keep the jug at 37deg somehow without using blades? Can anyone advise?
I'm trying to salvage by putting in the sun but it's been nearly 2 hrs.
