    Bun Dough
  1. 1). Combine the first 4 ingredients in the bowl. Speed 6, 5 seconds

2). Add water and oil to the dry mix. Mix speed 7, 5 seconds.

3). Knead using the kneading function for 5 - 7 minutes. Dough should be elastic, soft and well combined.

4). Wrap with Thermomat and place in warm place. Allow to double in size.

5). Once dough has doubled, section the dough into 8-10 equal portions. Roll into sausage shapes. Place on a large tray with approximately 1-2 cm in between each.

6). Place in warm area covered with tea towel and allow to rise again.

7). Portions should slightly touch after rising.

tmrc_emoticons.8). Cook at 190 degrees C between 10-15 minutes depending on your oven. Check regularly for colour.

Mine don’t look too pretty but they tasted amazing! So good. Will definitely be making again. Used warm water as per earlier comments and they rose beautifully. I just used a basic icing sugar and water icing as that’s what I like on mine.

I also had a bit of trouble with the dough not rising on this one, but overall they turned out okay.  I didn't get rave reviews from them unfortunately.

I wasn't a fan of the icing though - way to sweet!  Thank you for sharing.

how long do these stay fresh for? I'd only be making for hubby and my 3 year old? Should I halve the recipe? Or do you find they are ok for a couple of days? Thank you!

    Submitted by traceyg22 on 15. July 2015 - 08:03.

"Better than the ones from the bakery" was the verdict from my 10 yr old!  I struggled a bit with the dough, as was so sticky, so probably added too much flour when forming, but they rose beautifully after that.  Definitely making again.

  • These were wonderful! Just as

Submitted by Margarita Helen on 24. May 2015 - 15:38.

These were wonderful! Just as good as the bakery!! Have made them 3 times now, 2nd time last night, 3rd time this morning and looks like I'm about to make another batch!!!

I found the first time, the dough didn't rise so much but now I make sure the water is warm when I add it which probably activates the yeast. Still perfecting the icing as it's too sweet as is but oh boy, these are very popular - too popular - in this family! We throw in a handful of sultanas in the dough and add chopped walnuts to the icing. Thanks so much for sharing tmrc_emoticons.-)

Submitted by Mother Mix on 25. August 2014 - 15:02.

I've made these at least once a week for the last 6 weeks as an after school snack for the kids and hubby. I make them a bit longer, and get 8 'bakery' sized finger buns, so everyone is kept happy! They are so incrediably soft and yummy!
