Nearly as Good as Mum Used to Make!

Making syrup dumplings in the Thermomix using the Varoma is sooo much easier than rubbing butter into flour and shaping dumplings, making the sauce and cooking the dumplings in a saucepan.
I had recently bought a mini silicone muffin tray so because it didn’t fit in the Varoma , I cut it in half and put one half in the bottom Varoma bowl and one half in the upper tray.
The recipe made 12 dumplings - perfect!
Thank you for a quick and easy recipe.

Just wondering which part of varoma did you use, the bowl section or the tray. Was thinking tray but if they rise heaps might not work?

  • Quite good. Easy to make, but

    Submitted by Stompy on 15. July 2015 - 20:03.

    Quite good.

Easy to make, but dumplings were still not thoroughly cooked after 20 mins steaming in the varoma - still soft and a bit doughy in the middle. Sauce was excellent... and dreadfully sweet. I ended up with 12 dumplings, the kids had two dumplings each, and then asked for a third but it was even too sweet for them to finish their third dumpling  tmrc_emoticons.;)

These we very quick, easy and yum.  I made double quantity and my sauce was very runny so have to make again but single quantity to see what happens.  Thanks for sharing.  Always a challenge to find a good egg and nut free dessert for my anaphylactic son.

    Submitted by nicholeatchison on 4. February 2014 - 12:18.

I made these last night and they took a lot longer to cook than the recipe states. I used the varom tray as it has a bigger surface area for the dumplings. Could that have been the reason they took almost double the time to cook?

  • I had to ask the same

    Submitted by kc_patten on 6. June 2013 - 23:35.

I had to ask the same question on saving the recipe. Answer is, you need to create a "collection" in you recipes tab. Then find the recipes and on the right hand side of the image is "save to my collection" click on that and select the collection you created earlier. Hope that helps.

    Submitted by littlemissc74 on 6. June 2013 - 15:37.

I grew up with my Mum making these out of Suet Mix. Can I still use that instead of the flour as I've already got it in my cupboard. I wasn't sure how to convert to Thermomix so really glad I found a recipe.

These sound delicious.  Just checking on the syrup ingredients - water is listed twice - 30g water, and then 310g water.  Is this correct?

Sorry It should have read 30grams butter, 310grams water. Have edited now
