    Fantastic Authentic Custard

This custard is so good. It brings back memories of my childhood.
I used less sugar and will make it with even less next time as I think it will still be outstanding.
    Thanks for a great recipe!

Fantastic, only needed 1 cup custard so halved the mixture. Used 1 whole egg and 15 g cornflour, reduced cooking time by 1-2 mins. Thank you so much for such a quick and easy recipe 🙂

My boys are such fans of this! I love that they're getting a little bit more protein in their dessert. Tonight I found myself without cream so I subbed 400g milk plus 100g unsalted butter and it worked a treat!

What a great custard!! I've tried a few traditional egg custards with no luck then I stumbled across this one. I followed the advice of others and increased the cornflour to 25gm and decreased the sugar to 25gm and only used 2 egg yolks (Large). It was perfect!! Not too sweet and a perfect consistency. LOVE that it wasn't 'eggy' like all the others i've tried. Thanks!!

Submitted by Cindy Anderson on 3. October 2019 - 08:04.

Delicious - made with dollop cream (as I had some leftover that needed to be used), 2 large egg yolks, 30 g sugar, 50 g milo and 30 g tapioca flour (as I had no cornflour in the pantry). Consistency was a bit thicker than pouring custard from the supermarket when warm. Quite sweet so will try again without any sugar and think it could probably take another egg yolk. Thanks for the recipe!

    Submitted by leahmj on 24. December 2016 - 13:01.

I've just made a couple of versions of this.

    1. It makes 2 cups exactly.

    2. I followed the comments and used 25/30 grams cornflour and 40 grams caster sugar and cooked for 6.5 minutes. I found it's really thick already (hot). So if you want to cool it, I don't recommend using this recipe exactly, as it will be really thick/solid once cooled. I want to use mine cooled to make a trifle, so I had to make two more batches.

    3. My following two batches I used 3 x egg yolks, 20 grams cornflour, 40 grams caster sugar and cooked for 6 minutes. To me this is already thick enough to use warm, but shouldn't be (fingers crossed) too heavy once cooled.

My husby and I both taste tested both batches (and my mum!).. we all agreed that the second and third batch receipe was better. I think the first one was too thick and a little eggy.

Either way, it's a nice recipe tmrc_emoticons.) Smile
