Tip
This is great for children from 12 months of age. You can make up individual size portions in ramekins & freeze them. This recipe will make about 8 childrens sized portions.
Also instead of regular potato as the topping, you can use sweet potato or a combination of both.

Really tasty. I used mashed cauliflower for the topping. I didn't add any water but I did a couple of carrots, a pinch of mixed herbs and chilli flakes. Delicious thank you.

Cooked this for dinner last night and it was great... best tasting cottage pie I have ever had. I used lamb mince instead of the beef, didn't put in mushrooms as we don't like them and added a zucchini and carrot and extra garlic. I too only added 100g water and ended up cooking the last 15 minutes with the mc off to evaporate a bit. Topped it with quirky Jo's cauli and leek mash and a bit of parmesan.

Thanks for an awesome recipe. I'm a new thermie owner and this was a total winner at my place tonight. I added kale zucchini corn and carrot. Extra tomato paste and less water as per the previous comments. I have only ever cooked cottage pie with a powdered recipe base from the supermarket - not anymore!!
I added seveal other
I added seveal other vegetables to make this dish veggie nutrish and added half of the water after reading the reviews. My teenager and husband loved it but my toddler turned her nose at it. I had heaps of mixture left over and I made pies (using a puff pastry recipe) with the left over mixture for lunch boxes. Hubby and teen asked for this dish again. Thank you for posting your recipe.
This recipe is great! It's
This recipe is great! It's the first time I've cooked mince in the thermo as I was dubious about the texture/taste, but it turned out awesome.
I also refuced the the water to 150g, did 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, added diced carrot, celery, peas and corn. Will definitely be making again.
This is delicious! I reduced
This is delicious! I reduced the water and used 150g. for my own note, I used corn, peas, mushrooms and 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. Thanks for sharing this amazing recipe! Another note is to make double as this batch didn't last! Lol
I adored this recipe. Its
I adored this recipe. Its definately a great way to experiement with the TM (I am a reletively new user) so was able to try the mash potatoe recipe as well which was sublime. I read the comments and halved the water, I doubled the amount of tomatoe paste, added peas as well as used 1tsp parsley, 1tsp thyme and 1tsp of rosemary. I also added some cheese on top and baked until golden. The first night was delicious but the second was even better as the rest of the juice had soaked in. I can't reccomend enough !
Very flavoursome, I make this
Very flavoursome, I make this and top with NO FAIL MASHED POTATO, it's the nicest cottage pie recipe I've tried. Freezes well and can even be heated from frozen if necessary.

Yum yum pigs bum! The man and
Yum yum pigs bum! The man and the two kiddies (aged 11 months and 2.5 years) loved it (they're fussy little things too - so major win there!). It was a little bit runny, but still great. I made a few small changes:
- I used sweet potato mash instead of normal potatoes (I had an abundance to use up)
- I cooked the mince in the varoma instead of directly in the bowl to keep it from breaking up too much. In saying that, I forgot to add extra water so it burnt the bottom of my bowl a little... two washes later and it's back gleaming like new.
- I served with pea puree at the request of the husband-to-be
I would definitely recommend this dish to others.
Flavour good, too watery. Had

I'm vegetarian, but my family loved it. Like others suggested I cut back the liquid and it was perfect.
Awesome. I did mash brocolli
Awesome. I did mash brocolli and cauliflower instead of potato (cut out certain carbs) and put a little cheese on top... Very tasty
This is a great recipe and
This is a great recipe and topped with the EDC mashed potato is an absolute winner. I reduced the water down to 250g and cooked it with the steamer basket ontop, not measuring cup, and the consistency was perfect. I also added some zucchini, carrot and peas to it, and I would recommend that to sneak in some extra veges. Will be making this one again.
Not sure if I've commented on

Any chance of a vegetarian
Any chance of a vegetarian tweak?
I added peas/corn/zucchini to
I added peas/corn/zucchini to this and as the supermarket didn't have the mince I wanted and I didn't have the time, I cut my meat into small pieces. Added Sweet potato to the mash. I also reduced water to 200ml and added 1.5tbs cornflour with 30 seconds to go.
Yummo. Even the fussiest thought it tasted ok [even with the mushrooms] next time will reduce the liquid more and loved the meat a little chunky so will do that again.
This recipe is delicious. I
This recipe is delicious. I used the basket on top to allow the steam to escape, which made the sauce thicker. Thanks will make again.
I quite liked this recipe - I
I quite liked this recipe - I put carrot and peas in and a tablespoon of gravox to thicken.. I even made the mashed potato in the thermo - first time. Very impressed. Next time I will put some more vegies in.
Have made this a few times
Have made this a few times now and enjoyed each time. I "hid" a few more veggies in it (carrot, zucchini) and the kids loved it.

The whole family loved this one. Red capsicum adds a wonderful flavour!
Very tasty thanks... I also
Very tasty thanks... I also reduced the water and substituted mushrooms for carrots and added a little cheese on top
My family loved this meal. I
My family loved this meal. I did tweak it slightly .......i left out the mushrooms and replaced with a carrot, 1 zucchini and a few fresh tomatoes, skins removed. As per other comments, I reduced to water quantity by 100g and added a table spoon of corn flour to thicken, once the meat had cooked. I also added some additional herbs, tbsp fresh rosemary and thymeplus sea salt to taste. With 10 mins left to cook I added 3/4 cup of frozen peas (need to get as many veggies into the kids!!!). Finally since I didn't have any potatoes (shame on me!) I served it on a bed of brown rice with grated Parmesan on top) . Thanks for this great base recipe, I'll be adding this to my favorites!!
Great flavours, so easy &
Great flavours, so easy & whole family loved it!! Definitely decrease water by 100ml (thanks for tip everyone) or even more depending if you add extra ingredients (I added some zucchini & tomatoes I wanted to use up, these added to the water content, so I had to reduce further at the end & thicken with a little gravy flour). Definitely making again!!

Made last night was so yum.
Made last night was so yum. Changed a few things. Added 200g mushrooms, 1tbs of gravox, used beef stock not veg and kept the water at 300g as we like a little bit runny to soak up garlic bread! Fantastic!
I made this a couple nights
I made this a couple nights ago. Really nice flavour. I also reduced water by 100g.

We loved this! I made the mash first, using the TCB recipe, and stored it in the thermoserver. I took the advice of rochelle and used 100g less water - it was perfect! EVeryone gutsed it down! Will definitely be using this one again.
Thanks!
I made this for dinner last
I made this for dinner last night. The flavour was beautiful (and all demolished by the family) but the meat mixture was too 'wet' for a pie. Would suggest backing off the water by 100g or so.
