I use this as a base all the time. I vary it depending on what’s in the pantry. I add tinned Tomato’s And kidney beans to bulk it ouy and curry powder abdcwirstershire for that added zing. I’ve used this as a base for lasagna and shepherds pie. I also add in whatever veg I have, but favour zucchini as it hides well 😂. Thanks for a very useful recipe.

    Submitted by becka11 on 15. January 2015 - 22:35.

This was a quick and easy meal to make. I added in a carrot, zucchini and 1/2 a chilli as I like a bit of bite to my spag bol. I forgot to buy basil so it was really missing that flavour, but still tasty. I also tossed in some grated parmesan at the end.

    Submitted by Leila85 on 2. October 2014 - 21:42.

I used pork mince instead of beef plus I added half a zucchini and 1 cellery stalk at the same time as the mince (which I cooking in the basket for the first cook) then I added mushrooms and silverbeet at the final cook. My mince was way too fine in the end, wish Id left it in the basket the whole time and the sauce was too runny even after cooking for another 10mins with the basket on top. I would add double the amount of tomato paste next time and also some veggie stock to make it more flavoursome as it wasnt rich enough for our liking but thanks for the base recipe  tmrc_emoticons.)

    Submitted by Kerrymc2013 on 2. January 2014 - 22:20.

LOVED this recipe! After chopping the onion / garlic / oregano / basil, I added the oil and sauteed at 100 degrees, 2 mins, speed 1, then added 2 celery sticks, 1 carrot and 1 zucchini (all roughly chopped), chopped this for 3-4 seconds on speed 5, then sauteed at 100 degrees, 2 minutes, speed 2. Another change was also to add 1-2 tbsp of EDC veggie stock concentrate in the last step, plus some frozen spinach thrown in during the last 5-10 minutes. It was so yummy! My 10 month old, 3 year old and husband all ate every last bit. Will definitely be making this regularly. Thanks for posting!

    Submitted by bezzalator on 20. January 2013 - 19:54.

Delicious!! I chopped and then cooked up some tomatoes rather than passata (sorry to say I have no idea what passata is!!). Does anyone have any idea how to stop the mince from getting stirred up so fine? When cooking on the stove it is easy to keep the mince a bit chunky, but when using the thermie it ends up being close to baby food due to constant stirring. Any ideas how to keep it chunky?

Submitted by Michelle Meyerkort on 10. January 2013 - 12:03.

Passata is tomatoes that have basically been puréed. It comes in a 700g jar and you can find it at supermarkets near the pasta sauces or near the tin tomatoes. Or if you have a lot of over ripe tomatoes, place them in the thermomix, puree and set aside before starting the recipe. (It's up to you if you leave skin and seeds on before purée. I usually just leave it all on.)

Usually it's when I making something like this on the stove when someone (5yo) or something else needs my attention.  It's womderful to be able to set this recipe up and leave it to do it's thing and know that I won't have forgotten a step, ingredient or have it burn.  A very worthy recipe for any house!
