I absolutely love this recipe. I have made it so many times and it always turns out perfectly. I recently had jam rolls left from Christmas so ireplaced normal custard with the caramel and it was delicious 😋

Very nice - I only had cocunut sugar and it made it delicious. I only added 60g and I could have gone less for sure.
Used three eggs too to try to thicken it more due to comments. I even cooked an extra 2 min. I like my custard thick so might add a little more cornflour next time.

I was looking for something quick and easy for the after dinner munchies and this was perfect. Like others I used 3 eggs and it was perfectly thick. Sprinkled the top with some dark chocolate 70% cocoa buds once served and it marbled nicely through. Hit the spot!

Just made this again, using 150g of natural yoghurt, 550ml of milk, 3 eggs, cooked 14 min. Different texture to last time but much more like the colour of the photo. Slightly thinner than last time but flavour is divine. I'm going to keep experimenting with this as the flavour is perfect but I want to know what is best for different dishes. Custard for the following: trifle, pouring, tartlet filling, vanilla slice (definitely creme fraiche) Oh, the need for custard is endless!!Smile

Beautiful custard. Didn't look anything like the colour in the picture but the taste is divine. I used 3 eggs, 200 ml of creme fraiche (close to use by) + 500ml of milk, cooked for 14 minutes. Will definitely make again. 700 ml of liquid + 3 eggs makes approximately 6 good serves. Thank you for sharing.

Yarrenbool: Took your advise, used 3 eggs. I had 200ml of creme fraiche at use by date, I used that to make up to the 700ml. This was great, actually better than that! My 74 yo Mum & I fought over licking the bowl!!

    Hi,

I'm just wondering, is this custard thick enough to use as a pie filling (I'm wanting to make it into a cheat banoffee pie)? If not, is there a way I can thicken it?

    Thanks!

  • When something is already

    Submitted by Yarrenbool on 5. June 2016 - 04:39.

When something is already really this good, why not try and make it even better?

To the above recipe I added an extra egg, now 3 instead of the original 2.

To the original 600 gm milk I added 100 gm 35% whipping cream.  I made sure to use 3.25% whole milk for the 600 gm milk.  Now a total of 700 gm milk/cream.

I added 1 teaspoon of very finely freshly ground very good nutmeg along with the vanilla extract.

And to round it off I added a sprinkling of finely freshly ground very good nutmeg on top of each pot.
