      Recipe is created for
      TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

  1. Add peeled and halved onions to Closed lid and chop 6 seconds speed 5.5 MC on. Scrape down sides of Closed lid
  2. Add butter and sauté 5 mins 100 degrees speed 1 MC off
  3. Add all other ingredients and cook for 60 mins 100 degrees slowest speed reverse Gentle stir setting MC on
  4. Cook for 20 mins 100 degrees slowest speed reverse Gentle stir setting MC off. Place simmering basket on top to avoid splatter.
  5. Cook 15 mins steaming temp slowest speed reverse Gentle stir setting MC off. simmering basket
  6. Serve on a bed on mash, sweet potato mash or rice. Mash soaks up all the yummy sauce perfectly but if you prefer a thicker sauce you can thicken with some cornflour. Alternatively you can just increase meat to 1kg (it makes delicious pie filling).

Great recipe, enjoyed it the first time made. Near perfect but needed more meat and added salt on serving!

second time made I doubled to beef to 1kg, dusted the beef with flour, garlic powder and paprika before adding to TM bowl. I also addded a teaspoon of Vegemite as was using low salt stock powder. Was perfect. Thank you!

Very nice and the meat was surprisingly tender. I used 800 grams of chuck steak, and added 2 carrots chopped into 1 cm slices. I thickened mine with plain flour mixed with water two minutes before the end. We’ll enjoy the leftovers and I’ll be cooking this again!

This was delicious! I used scotch fillet, as that is all I had, and thought it might not work but it was beautiful and tender. Served with Potato Mash topping baked in oven.

    Submitted by MyCountryKitchen on 9. July 2017 - 12:42.

We loved this recipe! I made the meat stock concentrate from Tick of Yum website and used two tablespoons of this instead of the stock cubes.
I also increased the meat to a bit over 1kg (make sure not over the max line) and popped a tablespoon of arrowroot flour dissolved in water in for the last 15mins of cooking to thicken up the sauce a little 🙂
A hit with the family and visitors 👍

Yummy! I had 450g of oyster blade steak that I had to use and it worked perfectly in this dish. Melt in the mouth steak and delicious gravy! I cut down the water just a touch (350g) because I didn't have quite 500g meat and it was the perfect consistency! I steamed some beans and brocollini to serve in on.

Made this tonight and was a hit with everyone.
Added some cornflour to thicken it as the comments had suggested.
I also added some root vegies to the stew as it was cooking and served on toast.
