      Recipe is created for
      TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

  1. Add no more than 400g rice into simmering basket. Then pull out simmering basket and rinse under tap. While you are rinsing Rice, pop the kettle on. Put the basket back into TM Bowl (with rice still inside) and fill covering rice with water by 1cm. Cook 11mins/98 deg/Sp2 with MC on. Use straight away.

Tip

You don't have to make the full 400g, you can do however much you like. I usually do 200g as I use it as a side dish. It cooks for the same amount of time though.

Perfect fluffy rice every time!

    Great for white rice
I cooked red rice with this method but it took about 35 min. Probably needs 1.5cm of water to 2cm above rice level.

I had forgotten how to cook rice from the demo as it was a few yrs ago and the auto menu doesnt tell you to use the basket. I have been struggling cooking it straight in the bowl with the water- so gluggy and trying to get it out of my bowl has been a treat ( not! ) Thank you for stating this simple step. I cooked my basmati rice an extra 8mins as it was undercooked but it was beautiful and fluffy and easy to remove from the bowl. 😀😀😀👍👍👍

SimoneCecil: I usually start the cooking off at speed 3.5 or 4 for around 4-6 minutes depending on amount of rice used, then turn back speed to 2. Once time has elapsed I put into thermoserver until needed and it finishes off. If I want to use immediately I extend cooking for a minute or two.

After reading all the comments I wasn't sure if I should leave the measuring cup on or off. One person said theirs was watery so I left the cup off. It wasn't quite done after 11 mins so added the measuring cup and did another 3 mins and was perfect. next time I will just leave the cup on for the whole 11 mins and should be right.

    Fabulous ... absolutely!
Cooked a couple of minutes longer as rice was still sitting in a small amout of water. And added salt a must ... for my taste.
Also ... much better than previously owned Rice Cookers.

    Turned out great!
I haven't liked the previous (official) thermomix rice recipes as they never seem to cook well. This recipe however worked perfectly. Followed the instructions exactly and the rice was cooked perfectly, wasn't clingy or stodgy. My only change for next time is to add salt to the water.

Perfect rice! I too have tried the automated rice recipe and have be shy of giving it another go. Think this method will now be my go to recipe. I often steam veggies in the varoma to go with a rice dish but next time might give the veggies a head start as they could have done with a bit more than the rice cooking time. All in all a fantastic rice recipe though! Thank you for sharing.
