Gingerbread - Christmas Tree Decorations

Ingredients

20 piece(s)

Gingerbread

  • 125 g Butter
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 90 g treacle or golden syrup
  • 330 g plain flour
  • 1 tsp bicarb of soda
  • 3 tsp ground ginger
  • extra flour

Decorations (optional)

  • Royal icing sugar
  • food colouring of choice
  • cachous
  • currants
  • choc chips, M&Ms, etc.
  • sprinkles to decorate (optional)

Recipe's preparation

    Gingerbread
  1. Preheat oven to 160deg C.

  2. Place butter, brown sugar and treacle/golden syrup in TM. 

    Cook 1min/100C/speed 2, or until butter is melted.  Cool slightly in bowl.

  3. Add flour, bicarb of soda and ginger. Mix 7sec/speed 7 to combine.

  4. Knead doughClosed lid for 1 min 30 sec. Dough mode. 

    Tip on to lightly floured floured surface or Thermomat and lightly knead in to a ball.

  5. Roll to a thickness of 5 - 8mm. Slightly thicker is better for hanging decorations.

    Cut cookies using cutters and place on a lightly greased or lined baking tray. Reform the remaining dough in to a ball and repeat Step 5 until all dough is used up.

  6. Bake for 8 - 10 minutes or until cooked. Remove from oven and leave on tray until cool.

  7. Decorations
  8. Prepare Royal Icing as per directions on the pack and spread on to cooled biscuits. Use the icing to "glue" the choc chips, cachous etc onto the biscuits.

Tip

Treacle gives the recipe a stronger, more gingery flavour.
