Recipe's preparation
1. Rinse the chicken cavity and then pat dry.
2. Pierce the skin several times.
3. Place the onion pieces, celery stick & lemon pieces in the cavity.
4. Gently stretch the wings & drumsticks away from the body to loosen joints.
5. Tie the drumsticks together with a rubber band and place the bird into the Varoma.
6. In the TM bowl, combine the honey, soy sauce & garlic and mix on speed 7 for 5 secs.7. Using a pastry brush, baste the chicken generously with sauce.
Don't forget to do the sides and leg/wing joints
If any sauce left pour on top of chicken.
8. Add water to TM bowl and cook on Varoma, speed 2, 60mins.9. Remove chicken from Varoma & place on a baking tray and place into a hot oven (180 degrees) for 10mins. This is to give your chicken a "golden" finish. Should you not wish to do this you could just place your chicken into your thermoserver and let it sit for the 10mins.
** We serve this with oven roasted vegetables however it's also nice to shred to put into a salad or as filling for sandwiches

I've only had my thermomix for 4 weeks and everything I've cooked on a daily basis has been amazing .. This chicken was so disappointing.. It was a 1.9kg chicken, cooked for 70 mins, followed recipe exact but it was tasteless and the texture was not nice.... Will not be cooking again

Mine needed an extra 15 to 20 mins cooking. Went down very well though! Agreed the gravy made from some of the leftover steaming water was a huge hit. Thanks for the recipe!

So I totally cheated .... I couldnt be bothered making the sauce for basting and my chicken was frozen. I added 1.5ltr to bowl & threw the frozen chicken into varoma bowl, set for 60mins & walked away. Added an extra 30mins (from frozen remember) and WOW it was delish. Didnt have time to brown in the oven. It was cooked perfectly. Hubby & kids loved it and they normally complain when its dry.
I made a delicous gravy from the water below as it was very flavorsome, just added to a pot with some flour & a bit of vege stock paste.
Delish dinner and i will now be always cooking my chicken this way. (Promise ill try basting it too as it sounds amazing)

Yum, chicken was subtle in flavour, but gravy is awesome, kids loved this i used 500g of the cooking juices, 45g flour, 1 tsp of edc stock, 7 mins, 90 degrees, speed 3, for the gravy whilst the chicken was browning up in the oven. Be nice with some freshly baked rolls..

I made this last night, it was so quick and easy and OMG the most tender and juicy chciken was the fabulous result. Thank you so much. Will never do roast chicken in the oven again. It was a hit with the whole family even the fussy 8yo that doesn't eat much at all loved it.

I made gravy with 1ltr of the liquid. Added flour and vegetable stock. It was also awesome.

I added veges in the Varoma at the hallfway mark and browned everything off in the oven. Steamed beans at the same time. Reduced some of the steaming liquid on the hot plate and added flour and seasoning to make gravy. Will use the remaining liquid to flavour another meal at another time.
The meat is sooooo juicy, tender and fall off and he bone perfect. Thinking of trying other meats with this method.

I made this today. I had a big chook over 2kg. It just fitted in Varoma. Cooked for 75 Minutes and then 15 in oven. Was fantastic. First time using varoma for cooking meat. Thankyou.

Yummy! delicious, simple and plenty left over for seconds. First round we had chicken (after cooking, roasted in the oven for 15 min) with rice, then the next day we had it more like an asian inspired soup, with a few steamed bok choy. I used just over 1 ltr of water instead of 1.5 ltr, perfect amount, thankyou

My brother suggested that we cook the chicken as per this recipe, then using the remaining liquid to steam rice. That way all of the juices from the chicken, the marinade and the stuffing are reflected in the rice. Also steamed Broccoli & green beans at the same time.
It was an excellent combination.
This is seriously good
This is seriously good chicken - especially with some of the gravy suggestions above.

Absolutely delicious!! My chicken weighed 1.5kg and it cooked perfectly in 60 mins, then I put it in the oven for approx 10 mins at 175 degrees to crisp up. I made gravy with the juices from the TM jug. The chicken was so so moist and tasty. Will never roast a chicken any other way again!!

This will be our go to recipe for Roast Chicken.
Also made a Gravy with the leftover water (poured 1/2 out) and added 2 Tbsp of Vegetable Stock and Plain Flour to thicken.

Definite 5 stars! So ridiculously easy to do and honestly the tastiest and most moist chicken I have ever made (and possibly tasted).
Moist and tasty - Mr 8
Moist and tasty - Mr 8 declared it "best chicken ever!" (I used a size 16 chicken and it was cooked after 60min)
While the chicken was browning in the oven I made gravy by pouring some of the juices from the jug into a pan on the stove, brought it to the boil, added some cornflour (about a tablespoon) and a dribble of parisian browning essence and reduced it to a gravy consistency while stirring regularly - yum! I used the remaining juices in the jug to steam some veggies in the varoma.

Made this for family Xmas
Made this for family Xmas lunch today. It was fantastic! All the guests were non - thermo owners (even a couple of sceptics) and they were all amazed! No oil means it is not greasy (and bonus of being far healthier than standard roast chook). Plus it was so moist. Delicious!
love this, tis so easy. I
love this, tis so easy. I have used garlic with ketchup manis instead of the honey and soy as I'm lazy. Woks well and no sticky. Honey spoon. I also leave in oven for closer to 20 mins while I whip up some mash tatties over which steam some green beans and carrots in the varoma. Easy enough for midweek tea dinner whilst the kids do homework. I think mine looks better than the picture, so don't be put off by the picture on the front. Enjoy
thanks for the recipe.

This was so easy and the chicken was moist. I had a 2kg chicken, it just fits, as I wanted left overs for lunch next day and to make chicken and sweet corn soup. Cooked it for about 1hr 15mins in thermo and then 15mins in oven to crisp skin and finish off. Also threw a few spuds and carrots in the steamer for the last 15mins and finished them in oven too.

Hi I used a 1kg chicken but this cooking time would work for up to 1.2-1.5kg I would think. Best to just pierce the skin when you think it's finished and if the liquid runs clear it should be ready to go Enjoy!

What size chicken did you
What size chicken did you use? I am guessing that different sized chickens would have different cooking times. I am looking forward to trying this. Thank you.
