i didn't have fish sauce so used a teaspoon or 2 of veg stock. You don't need 500g breadcrumbs. Will be making this again

These Tuna Patties are super tasty.

I mashed and mixed by hand (I tend to over mix/whip in thermie), added a few capers.

    Submitted by bizness on 17. June 2019 - 17:39.

I made some modifications simply to add some more veggies and use up what I had in the kitchen:

    - I added a carrot and a button squash to the onion and sautéed them for 2 mins
    - I left the carrot and onion in when cooking the potato because I’m slack
    - instead of parsley I added dill, lemon zest and a teaspoon of pesto when adding the eggs etc
    - I used half potato half sweet potato
    - I added a fair whack of salt to the mix until it tasted fab

I fried them up in small nuggets and they are being DEVOURED by everyone including my picky husband who normally hates Tuna

Can I get some help on the ingredients please? The recipe says “a bunch of parsley”. Does this mean a whole bunch as you’d buy it at the supermarket, as that seems to be way too much? Would just a few sprigs do? I’m hoping to cook these tomorrow, so would appreciate some help. Thanks.

I don’t use the whisk to mash my potatoes. As long as they have been cooked enough I just mix on speed 3 for around 10-20 seconds keeping an eye on it so that it doesn’t overmix.

  • Wanted something quick and

Submitted by Denise Spaleck on 12. April 2016 - 08:29.

Wanted something quick and easy for dinner.  Found this recipe, was a bit reluctant at first but decided to try them.  I cooked the onion with the potatoe, did not have parsley or lemon juice but added a dash of dried chives and a bit of sweet chilli sauce.  Added about 2 tablespoons of breadcrumbs to potatoe mixture and rolled in breadcrumbs.  Did not have time to cool potatoe before adding egg and other ingredients.  Left in the fridge before rolling for about 5 min and then straight to the fry pan.  They are great.  My fussy 13 year old loved them. Will become a regular in our house

  • These came out very soft even

    Submitted by emtea88 on 6. November 2015 - 20:51.

These came out very soft even though I added extra crumb. Definitely need to put in the fridge before and after rolling into patties.

Did them in the oven and they were almost like those coated mash potato balls from Oporto!

Quite tasty, but not quite 'just like mum used to make', which is what I was hoping for.

If you prefer a firmer fish cake that is more like a pattie, be advised these ones are soft and fluffy.

I think I need to give this recipe another whirl and I think its really clever cooking the potatoes in the fish brine! tmrc_emoticons.)

Yum! I love tuna patties and now I love that i can do them so quickly and easily (and with much less washing up) since discovering this recipe - so thank you!

    This will become a staple.....

Oh and I add 2 carrots and blitzed with the onions. I also left them in to cook with the spuds to avoid the raw onion flavour for my 2 year old.

    Submitted by Suz76 on 20. March 2015 - 14:57.

Made these fortnightly since I discovered this recipe. My kids, husband and even fussy father love them. I leave onion and parsley in to cook with potato and dont add much tuna liquid. HINT: make sure you process your breadcrumbs before you start the recipe. Annoying took a few goes to learn my lesson!

We loved these but did find them to be very mushy. Not sure if adding more breadcrums to the mixture will help but will try that next time. They broke apart when you tried to flip them. Never the less I will cook them again cause we really loved the flavour. Yummy!!!

  • Not usually a 'fish cake'

    Submitted by meljb on 26. June 2014 - 20:50.

Not usually a 'fish cake' eater but these were quite tasty. Kids weren't fans but my husband & I gobbled them down. Easy to make but I didn't use anywhere near 500g of breadcrumbs, I didn't even need half that & they turned out perfectly (looked just like the pic & held together great). So next time I'll make a smaller batch of crumbs so I don't waste it.
