Tip

This can be used as a dip or on wraps for a mexican flavour boost! Also goes well in your chilli con carne or enchilada recipes. I sometimes stir through an additional chopped tomato when serving for extra freshness.

I've made this salsa twice this week and water bathed it. First batch I put in 1 habanero chilli and it was still mild. Second batch I used 2 habaneros and it had a lovely kick to it. Great recipe!

Great salsa! This is so delicious, and very easy to make. I made a half batch and reduced the cooking time - made a vast amount of salsa! I have frozen it in batches. We had it with tacos and it was very tasty.

    A GREAT SALSA

Went out on a limb and made this recipe because of all the great comments. It was very simple to make. I made up half the recipe but doubled the green capsicum amount. Went light on the cayenne pepper, blew my head off but was nothing for the other family members, so go figure. Will definitely be making this again when we have our Mexican Nights!! Highly recommend

Was really delicious! I used cherry tomatos as I had a huge supply and it ended up a bit more like a paste then salsa, but I think I chould have cooked it for less or added in perhaps a bit of water! It is DELICIOUS however!

How the bloody hell does everyone got it all in the jug? I'm at full capacity before adding the diced tomatoes?!!

Edit: ok I persevered and it turned out really good. After reading the comments I added extra salt, cumin & smoked paprika at the halfway point. I also used 4 fresh jalapeños instead of dried chilli. Next time I'll add the dried chilli too to make it more 'medium'.

Never buying salsa again! Sensational recipe & so easy. Fresh tomatoes & fresh chilli used. Made 1/4 of the recipe as don't need 5 jars worth. Reduced cooking time & left it chunkier by reducing turbo time. Mmmm used it on homemade burritos & nachos.

Delicious! I only used 500g of onion as that was all I had, I wasn't sure whether to use green or red capsicum, next time might try green. Used 1 tsp of chilli powder which was on the limit for me, next time I will use 1/2 tsp. as others have said I will never buy salsa again.

  • I made this for my son's 6th

    Submitted by Emmyh on 11. December 2015 - 19:57.

I made this for my son's 6th birthday party as he requested nachos. I left out the chilli powder so that it was kid friendly and swapped it for approx 1 tablespoon ground cumin seeds. Delicious!

I did halve the ingredients as I didn't need such a large quantity (and only had enough ingrediants for half!)- in my frazzled state of mind I forgot to reduce the cooking time, so cooked for the initial 30 minutes. It reduced down quite a bit but not too much. Then when I added the diced tomatoes I only cooked for approx 10 minutes. Regardless of my mistake it tasted good and the nachos all got eaten up by the hungry children and parents!

    Submitted by JuJubber on 20. May 2015 - 17:04.

Delicious !  I used 3 teaspoons of chilli powder instead of 1 tablespoon (4 tsps) but this was still quite hot.

    I would suggest that:

1 tsp = mild but a bit of zing

    2 tsp = medium

    3 tsp = hot

    4 tsp = xtra hot

You could also reduce the sugar a little if you wanted it less sweet, but it is very nice nevertheless.

    Submitted by karen21 on 18. April 2015 - 14:42.

This is so delicious. I wanted salsa for my mexican lasagne and didn't have any of the 'Old El Paso' that I usually use so I decided to make some. Never again will I buy salsa. I only made a half batch for the lasagne and my son started eating it with corn chips before I could even do the lasagne. I am now making another lot for later. I halved the vinegar and didn't worry about dicing the tomatoes first. I quartered them and added them at step 4 and then diced them on 2-3 for a few seconds- worked just fine.

Submitted by Bear Bear on 26. March 2015 - 14:52.

I know where you coming from! I've done this recipe at least a dozen times.. To me it really doesn't make much difference. You can easily add the extra 700g of tomatoes at the the 30 min mark, then chop on speed 2-3 for 10-20 seconds and continue on with recipe. I've done it both ways and the end result is the same.

If you have the YIAH Salsa mix add a tbsp into it, and a half tin of bake beans! Makes a great recipe even better!!

    Submitted by Korina on 8. August 2014 - 17:32.

Just finished making this salsa and it's yum.  I only made a quarter recipe, just enough to have with our meal tonight.  I wanted mine a bit more chunky so I skipped the chopping of the onion & garlic in step one and added ingredients as per step 2 and just did a quick turbo 3 times.  I may put slightly less cider vinegar next time but overall it's lovely!

    Thank you
