Tomato and Onion Chutney
- 500 grams tomato, halved
- 2 onions, peeled and quartered
- 2 small apples, quartered
- 280 grams raw sugar
- 70 grams sultanas
- 1/2 tablespoon whole cloves
- 200 grams white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper or Sweet Paprika

Recipe's preparation
- Chop onions and apples for 5 seconds on speed 7.
Add tomatoes and pulse 2-3 times on turbo (0.5 sec for TM5)
Add other ingredients and mix on reverse speed 5 for 3 seconds.
Cook for 30mins at Varoma temperature on reverse speed 1, with the MC replaced by the basket to stop splattering.
Check consistency and cook for 5-10mins at Varoma on reverse speed 1 with the MC replaced by the basket, if necessary.
Bottle in sterilised jars while the Chutney is still hot.

Tip
Recipe Modified 15/1/19 to reduce liquid.
If you prefer a less vinegary chutney, replace some of the vinegar with water.
Green apples are best, but red will also work.
Has been tested in the TM5 as well.

First ever tomato chutney I've made and it is loved in this household
I have now learned to read
I have now learned to read the comments first: while I poured the vinegar in I felt a pang of doubt. But I have learned that thermomix recipes are most successful if followed precisely. however, I find the sauce very thin and the vinegar taste is rather overpowering. I needed heaps of corn flour to make the chutney less runny. Another set back I experienced is the volume: when I stick to the quantities, I can't fit it all in one bowl. Consequently I now have a sink full with stainless steel bowl to wash.
an hour later: chutney is now finished and it looks beautiful and thick; flavour is already improving. i don't know when i make this again: I have about 3 liters of chutney: lovely neighbours, here comes my home made chutney!

Made this again and dropped vinegar to 100ml now really like it. it reminds me of the easysauce
recipe that it used to take mum and my husband all day to make!

FRAID I have to agree with Becci. The taste of he vinegar is overwhelming
First batch was awful.
First batch was awful. Followed the recipe s is and although the sugar and vinegar amounts felt wrong I still followed the recipe. Much too vinegar the end product tsted like a flavoured vinegar and ws just as runny.
Second batch was better, I only used 200g vinegar and 80g sugar and doubled the cornflour. This was edible. I'll look for nother recipe though I think.

This is soooo yummy! Thanks for posting it. Good consistency & flavour, I got 5 jam jars out of this. I put a few extra tomatoes in cause I needed to use them up (didn't hurt). Will make more soon, my tomatoe plants are going crazy in the heat
