  • 200 grams softened butter
  • 100 grams sugar
  • 200 grams plain flour
  • 40 grams cocoa powder
  • 65 grams Cornflakes

Chocolate Icing

  • 100 grams icing sugar, made in Thermomix
  • 25 grams softened butter
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons hot water
  • 25 walnut halves, optional

      For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

      If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:

Recipe's preparation

    Afghan Biscuits
  1. Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees. Line large flat baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Grind sugar to icing sugar in bowl for 10 seconds on Speed 10
  3. Add butter to bowl and mix together for 40 seconds on Speed 4
  4. Add flour and cocoa to bowl and mix for 30 seconds on Dough Mode/Interval Speed
  5. Add Cornflakes to bowl
    Mix for 20 seconds on Reverse Speed 3 for crushed cornflakes
    OR
    Mix for 5 seconds Reverse speed 3 for crunchy cornflake pieces
  6. Form tablespoon sized balls and slightly flatten on tray.
  7. Bake for 15 mins in oven.
  8. Remove biscuits from oven and place on cooling rack to completely cool before icing.
  9. Chocolate Icing
  10. Make icing sugar from sugar (Speed 10 for 10 seconds)
  11. Add butter and cocoa, then mix for 20 seconds on Speed 4
  12. Add hot water and mix for 10 seconds on Speed 3 until icing is a spreadable consistancy
  13. Using a spatula, spread icing on cooled biscuits and top with walnut half if desired.

    These turned out perfectly following the recipe exactly - didn't quite make 25 though, maybe I did them too big! Got 20 - great way to use up crumby cornflakes at the bottom of the containerLol

    Delicious. Only word of advice for others though is that they don't really change shape in the oven so if you prefer flatter biscuits then flatten more before cooking tmrc_emoticons.)

    I found the mixture to be too dry to roll into balls and ended up having to add another 100 grams butter to get the right consistency before baking.
