I have to take back some of my comment, after my post I was contacted by Thermomix and a new lid was sent out to me once I had provided photos of the broken old lid.

I just called customer service and got the same brush off about the Varoma lid. If something is faulty and has been replaced previously, I fail to understand how it becomes out of warranty and not faulty at a later date.
All the replies from customer service below will just be a call explaining where to buy it (as if none of us can google ourseles) rather than a call to arrange a replacement which is the impression given. Very shabby Thermomix, very shabby; with the cost of a thermomix, there really ought to be the guarantee of customer service with integrity.

I hasten to add that the agent I spoke to was polite, but had nothing to say as she was merely following policy.


I will add my story about my 'shattered' veroma lid discovered in my kitchen drawer last week. My veroma is about 7 years old but only used about 4 times and never dropped or washed in the dishwasher. I opened the drawer to find it literally broken into multiple pieces. I found this page about others who have had trouble with their older veroma lids also. Today I phoned Thermomix explaining and hoping there would be admission that the plastic had been changed (yes this was admitted) and an offer to replace the inferior lid that I was obviously sold. BUT instead told sorry, you have a 24 month warranty and you are out of warranty and have to purchase a new lid. So because my lid did not shatter within 24 months, I am expected to pay $60-$70 for a new lid made from a different (hopefully non-cracking or shattering) plastic. I have never had any other plastic kitchen item do this. As you can tell, I am pretty annoyed and disappointed in Thermomix!

I have the same problem with my Varoma lid. I used it once a year ago and hand washed it (I know it says to put it in the dishwasher but I heard there were issues). A crack appeared and now I've used it again the is a huge crack. How do I arrange a replacement please?

I just found this page...
My Vermoma lid has also bad cracks in it. I have never used it till about 6 months ago when I started to steam my mussels in it.
I've seen some posts saying something about a faulty product?
I had the same happening to my MC which I had to throw out a few years back as it was split in half.
Can you please let me know how to replace this please?

Hi I've had the same issue with my Varoma Lid and it is cracked down the middle,along with my measuring cup which has cracked.

Have just come across this page, have had my thermomix for ages and thought there must of been an issue with the varoma lids as mine was cracking due to heat everytime im used it. Last week it has fully snapped in half have all these been replaced?

Hi there,

Like many others my Varoma Lid has been cracked for some time, and today completely split in half making it unusable. My MC is also in pretty bad shape. My TM was in the batch where the green seal was replaced due to being faulty.

Any advice on how to get a replacement? I would appreciate a response ASAP since I can't do any steaming at the moment Aw

Have just had a huge crack split in my varoma lid resulting in me being unable to use it. This just happened tonight so I googled “thermomix varoma lid cracked” and stumbled across this. I have noticed cracks it in before (haven’t used it much) but didn’t take them in to consideration.
I also had my MC replaced a few years ago and the green seal sent to me so I’m assuming my varoma is SANS? What can I do about this please? Very disappointing as I haven’t used my varoma all that much. Thank you

Hi, I purchased my TM31 a few years ago but we do not use it very often and never dishwasher the components. The MC has deteriorated over time and is now beginnig to split. The varoma lid also has cracks running through it but we hardly ever use it. After reading this forum I understand that the SAN version of these components are faulty and I was wondering if a replacement is possible?

My MC was replaced due to cracking a couple of years ago and now my varoma lid has cracked so badly it has broken in half. Is there any possibility of getting it replaced?

yes, it sounds like it would have been made from the same plastic as mine were. I have been fortunate to experience excellent customer service from Thermomix - they sent out a replacement MC years ago, and also a replacement varoma lid recently after my post on here - free of charge. I don't know if that customer service will extend to a second hand unit - fingers crossed it will. if not, and you end up having to buy it, I can tell you that the new ones are made of different plastic and do not crack, so you shouldn't have the problem again in future. Hi, I purchased my TM31 second hand from a cousin. I have had it a little over 6 months and I believe she had it for a couple of years possibly (hardly used!) The MC was pretty clear with a couple of fine lines through it when I received it, and within the time I have had it, there are 'fractures' all through the lid, and one solid crack down the side (no, it has not been dropped and cracked). I do not put it in the dishwasher, I only hand wash it. Is this a normal expectation? Thanks.

Hello,
im in the same boat - Varoma lid terribly cracked, even though I only use it occasionally. My thermomix was from the batch where the plastic was changed, but they realised it didn’t wear well. The MC and ring seals cracked, which were automatically replaced. I guess the plastic used for the varoma lid has the same problem. Does anyone know thermomix will replace free or discounted, given that this is a known fault? TIA

Hi, my TM31 Varoma lid is very cracked. My MC previously cracked & company replaced it as well as changed from grey seal to green (faulty range). How do I get a replacement Varoma lid?

I have spoken to Dan at Thermomix re the lid. I am now going to soak it in hot water with detergent overnight. I will then oil it before use. I will report back whether it helps. I have already oiled it before but will persevere and give it another go. On the other hand oiling it too much reduces the friction which defeats the purpose of its design. My consultant told me not to use the grey seal. My fingers were in a lot of pain on the weekend when I used the machine several times. 

As for the Varome, the lines near the rectangular "holes" are normal. The cracking starts around the edges of the lid. They appear as tiny lines in the beginning. Eventually all SAN PRODUCTS will crack but I will use mine as long as possible before replacing.

Me too. I find the seal makes the lid very diffuclt to close and open. I have to use two hands and a fair bit of grunt - and I don't have arthritic fingers. My measuring cup, too, had to be replaced. So it's very disappointing all round. I am not up to using the TM several times a day if I have to battle to get the lid on and off.

In fact, I just put the old seal back on because I really can't face struggling with the green one.


Hmmm....that's strange! Mine is also cracking in the squares and when I spoke to my consultant she said it was normal....but it's made out of the same plastic as my mc which was replaced, so no doubt it will crack up even more Aw

I noticed that you joined around  the same time as I. Perhaps our machines are from the same batch. If your Varoma lid  and MC have SAN printed on them then they will crack and will need to be replaced. I have had my MC replaced already. My Thermomix is also from the "faulty" range so I have just received a green seal. It has made the lid very hard to open and my arthritic fingers feel it. I used to use my Thermomix several times a day. Not sure how I'll go now. I hope this helps. 


I have also found cracks on my Varoma lid and MC, have asked for replacements.  Was told the Varoma lid cracks were rare!!

My Varoma lid is also very cracked. I really hope it can be replaced before it does split in half because I use it all the time, we love our perfectly steamed vege's  Smile I bought a new MC myself after it cracked in half. My consultant isn't working anymore but the ladies at the cooking classes have been wonderful.


Mine virtually cracked in half after about 9 months. My consultant organised to have it replaced - I received my new one a couple of weeks ago and it is really great. Obviously made of a different substance. I have also had my MC replaced. It is also made of a stronger substance.

I have had my measuring cup replaced since purchasing my Thermomix in February with no trouble at all, unfortunately my Varoma Lid is cracked in all the square cut outs and starting to crack on the top as well, my consultant said she was going to get it replaced weeks ago, but it must have slipped her mind.  Is this as common as the faulty MCs.  Is anyone else having trouble with their Varoma lids as well?
