The easiest, lightest and tastiest cake enjoyed by many on 2 different occasions. Definitely a winner. Did not use cochineal. Split the cake and added whipped cream to the middle then a chocolate frosting on top.

Made this last week and absolutely loved it!

As I'm not the best baker I am asking for advice for my next try (as it will be for a birthday cake!) do you think it would be ok to split the cake batter in two round tins so that I can use them to layer?

Made this today when I couldnt find my usual choc cake recipe. We loved it. It was lighter and fluffier than I thought it would be - like a sponge. It's now a favourite. We dont have cochineal and didnt miss it. Will try again with less sugar.

Super easy chocolate cake. I used cacao powder and only 170g sugar and omitted the cochineal. Baked in a round tin and topped with the ganache from the BCB. My dad, who usually doesn't eat cake, had a second serve! Thanks for a great recipe!

    Submitted by Showy on 14. January 2018 - 16:03.

I love how everything’s together and you mix it all at once. It was drier up the top but moist down from that. I don’t like to share it so I didn’t mention it when the mother and father in law turned up. I did not have cochineal. I did not have cocoa and it still worked with nesquik. And I used soy milk. Oh yeah, the second slice was with a mixture of peanuts and cashews and this was nice too. The sugar was reduced. This was more like a pudding than a cake.

i followed the recipe, dropped the sugar to 200g as per other suggestions... I even cooked the cake for 10 mins less.. I usually cook on 180 but did 190 as per the recipe..
mine looked amazing but it was the dryest cake I've ever made.. I was so disappointed as I made this one based on the fantastic reviews..

Made this last night for husbands work colleague birthday, i was unable to ice it as I had run out of sugar, and had no cream for a ganache, I was able to sprinkle with a little icing sugar to make it look pretty and it was still a massive hit, unfortunately I didn't get to try it! So I'll have to make it again, it will definitely be a go to recipe as it was so easy, thank you.
