Recipe's preparation

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 170 degrees (moderate temp).

    2. Grease deep 26.5cm x 33cm (14 cup/3.5 litres) baking dish: line base and edges with baking paper.

    3. Place water, sugar, butter, cocoa powder & bicarbonate soda into mixing bowl and cook 100 degrees/10 min/speed 2.

    4. Allow mixture to cool down to 60 degrees.

    5. Once cooled add flour and eggs and mix 30 secs/speed 3 (gradually increasing to speed 3) or until mixture is smooth and changed to a paler colour. As there is a lot of mixture in the bowl, don't mix any higher than speed 3.

    6. Pour cake mixture into prepared dish.

    7. Cook for 50 min OR until an inserted skewer comes out clean.

Allow to cool in dish for 10 min until transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

    8. Ice cake how you would like it!

I ice this cake with using the Ganache recipe from EDC.

Server with cream or ice cream. Tastes really yummy heated up with a scoop of ice cream!

Tip

This recipe is the Thermomix adaption of AWW Family Chocolate Cake.

The cake is super moist and is a generous size, perfect for the family or a BBQ.

Cake also freezes really well. Cut into pieces before freezing.

So easy. I thought this was going to be too much for the bowl but it was the bicarbonate Soda that fooled me. Once I poured the flour in & the egg it was the perfect amount. I cooked it in 2 square tins. Didn't rise that much. Easily cooked & one from my childhood too. Thank you I will add this one to my favs 🤩

This is my go to Chocolate cake recipe, as its very similar to a recipe my mum used to make when I was growing up. Loved by all my boys, makes a big cake, and is lovely and moist.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Submitted by ronmic on 12. February 2015 - 21:57.

I continued on after a big cleanup and used half the rest of the ingredients. It made a much smaller cake but was still delicious and moist and not overly sweet (until I topped it with chocolate icing tmrc_emoticons.;-) A friend suggested I shouldn't have put measuring cup on but the steamer instead so will try that next time!

Just in process of making this and at the syrup stage and it has just overflowed all over machine, bench and into a big puddle on the floor!!! What have I done wrong? Is it because I am using a TM5?

  • Delicious and forgiving.

    Submitted by Sfarlow on 26. September 2014 - 21:16.

Delicious and forgiving. tasted fantastic even after losing a cup full of syrup when the liquid overflowed while cooking and then I forgot about it in the oven 10 minutes extra. The perfect cake for the careless! Recommend not to preheat the oven until the temperature of the syrup has dropped to 70 or 80 degrees.
