Recipe's preparation

    Step 1
  1. Open the can of pumpkin puree (or puréed pumpkin). Measure ¼ c (60 mL). Transfer the rest to an airtight container to store in the refrigerator or freezer for another use.
  2. Step 2
Combine the pumpkin puree, oatmeal (instant or rolled) and water. Stir in cinnamon or another spice if you like.
  3. Step 3
Cook for 11 minutes, 90°C, reverse speed 1. Then Remove the oatmeal mix from thermomix then keep it covered while it rests for 5 minutes.
  4. Step 4
Uncover and let cool to the touch. Scoop out about ¼ c (60 mL) and use your hands to roll it into a ball.
  5. Step 5
Bring the ball and the rest of the oatmeal to the table with baby. They will likely not eat all of the oatmeal, and that's okay. You want to offer enough that there is plenty for them to explore with their hands.

Tip

Tips!

You can swap instant oats for rolled oats, and cook the oats for a bit longer in Step 2. You can also use infant oat cereal if you prefer.

If you like, you can stir in a little breast milk or formula after the oatmeal is cooked, which adds a familiar taste to this new food.

After you have introduced common food allergens like cow's milk, peanut, and tree nuts, try using milk instead of water, and mix butter into the cooked oatmeal for flavor and healthy fat.

You can add iron by mixing chia seeds or hulled hemp seeds (also called hemp hearts) into oatmeal.

If chia and hemp seeds are not available, you can also use finely ground-up pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds.

    TM 6
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.
