Saved me so much time! Needed to peel 3 whole bulbs. A few pieces weren’t completely peeled but definitely made it much easier as the bulk was done.

I have done this a few times now and the majority of the time it works well, on the other occasions it did not peel some of the bulbs properly but they were very easy to peel by hand. I do think it will vary on the age of the bulbs but I will do a very large batch once a week and it does save lots of time.

HI!! I think soemtimes it has to do with the age of the garlic as well. I also give it an extra second or 2 sometimes. Thx for commenting. tmrc_emoticons.)

  • My husband is a gardener and

    Submitted by margarose on 18. April 2014 - 11:36.

My husband is a gardener and he grows garlic. It's his hobby but dealing with the produce ends up being my department. Today I have possibly a hundred small cloves of garlic that were too small to plant. I'm looking for an easy way out. When I have minced the garlic I will mix it with some olive oil and spoon it into ice cubes to  freeze them for the days when I just cannot be bothered to do fresh.

  • Sometimes you need to crush

    Submitted by Yvette78 on 8. November 2013 - 15:48.

Sometimes you need to crush your garlic and sometimes you need to dice your garlic, depending on the recipe. So peeling it by crushing with a knife is find if crushing it is whats required. I don't get the taste difference really, but the fancy chefs on TV say there is a difference tmrc_emoticons.)

    Submitted by annebarnes on 17. March 2013 - 21:51.

I can't understand why we need a T/X recipe tp peel garlic! Get a clove of garlic and squash it down hard with a wide flat bladed knife. Garlic pops and it is so easy to remove skin. If I am missing something please inform me.

  • Hi Thermomixers, I

    Submitted by Pusskin on 17. March 2013 - 19:29.

    Hi Thermomixers,

I accidentally minced mine after watching a YouTubr 'slider' by Helene, a blogger from Canada, by letting it go to 30secs! Not doing that again! tmrc_emoticons.p  Have found that two bursts of Spd 4, 2 seconds, with with or without  water works, as suggested by Quirky Cooking's Jo. I'm not sure whether it he trouble is really worth it though, because I still get a little bit of minced garlic at the end, and have to pick up teensy bits of peel. Having said that, I did three lovely bulbs of garlic in 3 minutes flat and have a big jar of garlic in oil, and probably won't need to peel for at least a fortnight.

did the 10-15 seconds on reverse speed 4 but the blades still took chunks out of the garlic and not all were peeled.  More trouble than it's worth.

    Submitted by Issy on 7. May 2012 - 17:49.

Not sure what happened with mine.  Did all the recipe said to the tee except only left in for 1.5min and checked and it was minced to pulp.  Epic failure, so I guess that lot of garlic will be getting used to spray the vegies..what a shame.  Is the 3 min stated above the correct time?  Would love to know what went wrong.  not game to try again as I don't fancy wasting any more local garlic which is hard to get. tmrc_emoticons.~
