I actually use something like a disposable mascara brush - I saw it while I was getting make-up done at MECCA and it looked perfect.  The sales girl gave me a couple to take home.  Seem to do the trick.

Hi G3org1a,

Yes, the blades are sharp. Please be careful when handling them.

Hi kazzskraft,

Blending ice cubes in your Thermomix does not sharpen the blades.

Hi Tracyx4

My Tm consultant has mentioned to sharpen the blades you use ice cubes in thermomix .

It was pointed out to me recently that the blades are not particularly sharp. Not at all like a kitchen knife which should not be put in the dishwasher. It is the SPEED of the blades that chops so well , not the sharpness. Carefully  placed on the top shelf should be fine.

Do they blunt with use? Do we needs to get the blades sharpened.?

Can I ask the best way to store your blades in the dishwasher?  They are too big for the cutlery basket.  I have been putting them on an angle in the top rack trying to make sure the sharp part of the blade isn't touching the rack or anything else but not sure how secure that is.  Any tips would be great thanks.

Hi Carole39,

Thank you for your post, however, we just wish to clarify that putting the blades through the dishwasher does not blunt the blades. At the test kitchen, we use our dishwasher for all parts of the Thermomix regularly with no issues.

Or you can buy a small brush about 8cm long and the brush ends are about 1 cm wide. It cleans under the blades and also the thermie base where the bowl clicks in. Available onlinit. Mine came from Canada but i think they are sold online from Australia.

I don't put the blades through the dishwasher as it blunts them.

That's a great idea!  I use a small bottle teat cleaner as that gets in under the blades really well.

I always find that cleaning the blade properly after making doughs, curries etc is always hard, even if it goes through the dishwasher.

So now i keep a supply of toothpicks next to my sink just for this cause - they are cheap, clean every little scrap of baked on or sticky food off and best of all - dont scratch the metal.

Just thought i would share  Smile Smile
