This has also been happening to me the past few times that I've used it (I've had it for years without any issues). Unfortunately, this time, it has completely shut down and won't turn back on and it has my family's dinner stuck in it (can't unlock the lid)! I've tried calling customer service but they're only open until 4pm.


I have teh same problem, 'unexpected shut down'. we only had it for two weeks and used only twice, made a stew and a soup. Third time started steaming veggies, it seems nothing fancy or strainious on the appliance, and thermomix shut down on me. It was impossible to reboot. First it would turn on trying to reboot but the screen was flickering, then it died on me completely. Contacted one of the managers in head office, UK. I will see what they say. To be honest, if it breaks after a couple of uses, I am not inclined to keep it and would prefer a full refund.

Hi there,

My TM51 is shutting down at the end of the cooking cycle with the error message "unexpected shutdown." It is continually doing this although it is completing the cooking. Has anyone else experienced this?

My TM5 has come up with "unexpected shutdown". I was using it on the varoma setting to boil eggs. It has happened 3 times in the last week. Any thoughts about what it could be?

My TM5 has been coming up with an error as well and shutting off. It's done it about 5 or 6 times now. Why is it doing this?


Our family recently bought the new TM5, two weeks now, but today we had to stop the planned meal half way through as a fault came up and we were unable to clear it.

the fault code was C140, and no matter how you place the bowl, cleaned it, played with the microswitch, turned it off/on, the fault remained and our dinner lost.

has anyone seen/heard of this fault and know what to do with it


I must say that Thermomix made contact with me promptly and were very helpful. They sent me a part that may have been the culprit, but strangely the fault did not occur again. I have been doing all my regular kneading etc since without a problem. Weird!

This happened to me today too, it kept happening I couldn't turn the machine back on and dinner was locked in. I eventually got it opened but it happened again later on, obviously I am not the only one.


Mine did this twice, shutting down unexpectedly, then took me through the start up safety stuff again.  Hasn't happened since though (had it since mid November)

Thank you Thermomix. I hope I am not going to be up for high cost, as I have spent so damn much with you to date and as you have read, two out of four failures is not a good average for the price.

Hi Cartay01. Have you had a satisfactory outcome to your problem?

I had the very same issue happen today. I was making a rice bread recipe which doesn't actually form a dough, rather like a thick porridge and suddenly it would stop and when reset, stop after about 5 or 10 seconds.

I am 3 months out of warranty, and NOT HAPPY. I was so pleased with it at the start that I bought 3 more. One for each married daughter. I am a pensioner and NOT rich, but I thought it a good way to share some of my savings with them while I am still here to share the joy of the TM's. Well several months after buying the 3 others, one had to be sent away and have the motherboard replaced.

When I see the cheaper alternatives now avaiolable, I have regrets at having spent so much money.

I left phone messages with the person I bought them all from early this morning, and now at 9.15 pm I have not heard back. Obviously I now wont have it back for Christmas, when I planned to make a few sauces and more bread. At least I can borrow one, but that is such a bloody nuisance.


Hi, i've just had the same problem. Only got it yesterday! Luckily the consultant is awesome and checking with the service centre and getting back to me. What caused it? Do you know? Also, has it done it again? Thanks! 


Got my thermomix back late this afternoon. i believe it was a connection error per my consultants advice. Her email advised that I the customer had been updated that this was the problem and I would have the unit back today but so far I haven't had any information from thermomix directly. As luck would have it the school fete is tomorrow so I am crazy busy so hoping to have a play with the machine on Sunday afternoon.


I will update when I have any news!

Thermomix Australia my consultant put in a service request on my new TM5 on Saturday night. I appreciate you don't work weekends, but how long would it take for any form of response? This was a major purchase and I would really love to use the machine sitting on my kitchen bench that now won't even turn on.

i am on Day 3 of my thermomix journey and have made 3 things. Tonight I was making bread dough and it started to unexpectedly shutdown. It would initially restart and say it shutdown unexpectedly and take me through the initial set up messages again. if I go back to the receipe it let me resume, but now it will only restart and then shutdbefore fore anything can be done..or not restart for a period of time.  Help!
