I am new to the site and just found this thread - so relieved it is not just me having this problem. My Thermomix is two months old today and it has always been difficult to get lid back on when cooking anything hot. 'Tucking' the seal in at the back first seems to work when it has cooled down.
I was about to start a new thread to see if anyone else had the problem... and discovered there was already a thread on it.
Yes, when I have been cooking, and the thermomix bowl is warm, if I lift the lid off to follow the next direction it is really hard to get back on. I have to try several times to get it to fit. I have checked underneath to make sure the soft lip is not getting caught, and that doesn't seem to be the problem. I also have tried putting the lid back on in different positions ie the handle is at different parts of the clock face (when looking down on the bowl, thinking of it as a clock face with 12 at the top etc) but that doesn't work either. It takes quite a few attempts to get it to go back on. I think probably when I do get it back on successfully it is that it has already cooled down to some extent - so I suspect it is a heating issue more than anything. Perhaps something on the lid (or bowl) has expanded with heating, and therefore not allowing the lid back on until it has gone back into shape.
So, is this a problem that everyone is experiencing or is this a fault on just some machines?
I have been wondering how come my lid seems like it's lifting up, I have to wiggle, push, put pressure.... I'm a little over it. I don't want to be without my machine so please don't say, send back lid. I'm hoping the company can send new lid, THEN, I return faulty. I don't like how there seems to be so many faults.
I too have been having the same problem, but have just thought I was doing something wrong. My machine is on the way back from repair for a cracked casing and 'ghost messaging', and now this problem.
So glad to see so many others having this problem with the lid ( especially) when warm ! Was beginning to think I would just have to off load this machine & try to buy back my old one.... Contacted the service dept that suggested it was a problem with the arms but when you leave it without power for a while it would work again & obviously the lid would cool down....makes me so angry when I half way through a recipe for dinner the whole bloody machine shuts down! Grrrrrrr Thermomix need to sort this out & replace the lids free of charge as the did with my original machine when there was a safety recall on that lid!
This lid thing is driving me crazy! Have read that a lot of prople are having this issue; my lid will not click on properly and I often have to hold it down to make it click which I'm sure is wrecking the machine. What can we do to have this fixed? This machine is too expensive to have to put up with faulty parts!
I got a replacement lid and I always know which is which as the old one will not go on at all even after rinsing, back to front ect still wouldn't go on my new one goes on like a glove hot or not!
Yes I am having the same issue with the lid, just doesn't feel right but then you are in the middle of a recipe and have no other choice as to continue? Worried that the lid might jump open or break something in the process.
I just met with my consultant about this problem. Her advice was to rinse the lid with cold water to get the lid back on. I'm not super impressed - it wasn't a problem with the old machines, why change the design from one that works to one that doesn't?
I just feel that work-arounds and making do are not something to be put up with when you pay so much for a kitchen appliance. It should just work.
It is my understanding that this isn't a problem with all TM5s, just some of them. Why isn't my faulty lid being replaced?
We have flagged your post with our Service team, and have also alerted them to the error you have experienced. Someone will be in touch with you soon. Please bear with us in the meantime.
I have been making fig jam, (lucky me I have a fig tree in our very small back yard), and yes the lid does get hot, so rather than damaging the seal by trying to force it back on, and as others have suggested, just rinse off with running tap water. I am fairly sure this was actually mentioned at the first demo I ever saw.
I'm having the same problem. Tried to do my first chicken tonight, did that part no problems, but then when I added the veggies to steam, the lid wouldn't go back on, kept getting error 145. I tried so many times, it just wouldn't go back on. It also kept shutting itself down. So frustrated. Dinner was good, but would've been far better if we had the veggies to go with it.
I am also having the same problem, at first I thought it was me not putting it on right but It has happened a few times now, and when it is hot. Also, when using thermo manually it seems to take a long time for it to open - about 6 seconds, is this normal?
Hi All, Having the same issue and have let my consultant know. If quickly rinsed under cold water the lid goes back on OK. But it shouldn't be happening. It is very obvious the seal ring on the TM5 "swells" when heated, particularly on the rear left side of the lid (when facing the machine). I am very impressed with this machine, but disappointed with this aspect and lack of response from Vorwerk and/or Thermomix, with this obvious and frequently reported design fault
I am also having this issue after using very high temps. Cools quickly but occasional it has been clamped in without a proper seal and content leakage has occured.
I'm also having trouble with the lid going back on once warm and then the other night I cooked silverside and kept getting error c160..My machine is about 5 weeks old..Very frustrating
I am continuously getting the C160 error displaying while cooking - and today it also came up with the error messge to say the lid wasn't on ccorrectly. It didn't matter how many attempts I made, I still couldn't get it to work. Perhaps I need to send it back?
I suspect my seal is folding over, preventing the lid from going on properly after it warms up. I can usually push it on, but I find that often it will then leak.
I had this issue today and am waiting to hear back from my rep. Is this just an issuewiththe warm seal or is it one where the machine needs to be sent away? First issue I have had and only had my machine for a month. I don't want to give it up yet :(
I just got my machine last August. I bought it from Taiwan and now I encountered C160 error and the machine is restarting on itself. I had to admit I was very impressed of the machine at first bbut I felt very disappointed today because of that error plus it repeatedly say "the lid is not centered" or whatever can any of the response team of the thermomix help me?
does anyone else have any issues with the lid not going back on once warm the seal must be soft or something and you really have to struggle with it to get it to go back on very frustrating!

I found that I do need to be careful/extra aware when putting the lid back on after the seal is warm. This definitely slows my process down a little.
