I'm having the same issue, thought it was just with cook key but no the issue is the lid I think. I've cooked pasatta and soup over the last few days and both time when I've opened my Tm5 and tried to close I get lid closure errors. It seems it the little lock button as the lid fits perfectly when not locked into position. Help please.

Hello i made some soup the other day and when I went to blend it, despite the arms being locked on the lid, the hot soup leaked all out and down the side of the bowl. I would appreciate some help with this please.

Kind regards,
After several attempts and months of trying to resolve the same problem, I finally received a replacement lid. But, I received a lid for a TM31, I have a TM5, does no one at TM check their records? Really?
Hi ThermomixSLO
Thank you for your post. We are the distributor of Thermomix in Australia and New Zealand and are unfortunately unable to be of assistance in this case we see that you are based in USA.
Please go back to your consultant and they will be able to help you.

Me too. I have been cautioned a few times that the lid is not in place and have had to fiddle with it and hold it down to get the bowl to lock and go.
Since I have seen that most of these comments have been flagged for customer service I have sent an email to them with a link to this forum conversation.
I just purchased and recieved my TM5 about 1.5 - 2 weeks ago -march 2016. So, thiinking there has been no great changes to the lid between now and when this thread began.
Anyone have any great suggestions for living with this issue
I have had the same problem after just 3 days of use. Lid would not go back on after cooking a hot dish. I have returned it to my consultant who had a spare to loan me whilst mine gets sorted out. I've read throught the posts which seem to date back a long way. Has Thermomix properly addressed this problem beyond replacement or "flagging post with our Service Team"?
Hi DebbieRidley,

Kind regards,
my TM5 has started having the lid problem. when cooking warm/hot and need to remove the lid for something, it will not lock back down, i just gently hold the lid and the clamps close over it. does this require a new lid? is it the seal going faulty on the lid. i can still use at the moment but if this is a proablem all over i do not want to wait months to use again. Not for $2000 anyway if it is a problem all over can i get a new lid sent out or shall i contact my rep here in Perth Western Australia. Thanks
Hi Metter,
Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your replacement lid. Our customer service team will be in touch with you directly to further assist and answer any questions you may have.
Kind regards,
It's fine to keep offering for the service team to call. I got a new lid, same problem as the original ( doesn't fit when hot ). Is there going to be a fix for this ( a proper replacement lid that works)?

Kind regards,
My Thermie is on its way, but this is scaring me!
Hi,
Since my phonecall to your representative I have had further problems. When making a curry in the basic cookbook tonight the thermomix shut itself down midway through a 45 minute cooking time. It gave no warning, simply "device will restart, click ok to continue". When I restarted it, it would not recommence cooking as the lid would not fit. I tried running it under cool water multiple times as your rep suggested, but it still wouldn't fit. When it finally cooled enough to fit, it accepted the lid but then would give the same error (device will restart...) and shut down. I could not finish the cooking.
Please contact me as a matter of urgency, this is compeltely unsatisfactory.
thank you
dani

Hi,
I am also having the same issue - my lid is not going on properly when the machine has heated up and the little locking arms won't close so can't continue cooking.
Is it possible for someone to contact me regarding this?
Thank you.

I've only had my Thermomix for two weeks but I'm already having this issue with my lid when cooking something hot. And it's always the right hand side that wont go into place. I'll try running the lid under cold water as suggested Thanks.

Kind regards,
Hi, I have had my Thermomix for about a month and already have a few problems with my lid, it is very hard to put back on when its hot and also has leaked a couple of times when I managed to get it back on. Also the seal is getting quite smelly, I am avoiding making deserts because I am worried they will absorb the odour. I have tried all of the suggested cleaning methods but the smell is still there.
I posted my comments on this issue back on 29 March, so this is just an update. I was told it would get better with time, and maybe it has - a little. But I am so anxious it will happen when I have guests, that I leave the lid on and squash ingredients in through the hole in the lid - even with Chicken Cacciatore! May not be ideal, but has lowered my frustration level!

Hi everyone,
I have now received a new lid. I now switch between the two lids when cooking hot dishes. However, I also spoke to my thermo consultant, and she suggested a particular way to put the lid on. I don't think I can explain it very well on here, so I would advise talking to your own consultant (as my consultant told me that they had all had the problem explained to them and how to manage it). This technique doesn't work perfectly every time, but does help. So now with the 2 lids and this way of putting the lid on, the problem is resolved!
Just in case you can't wait to speak to your consultant and you are willing to try to follow my explanation I've added it here.
Hold the lid upright with the handle at the top, bottom of lid touching mixing bowl, at the side furthest away from you. Now, making sure the lip of the lid goes over the lip of the mixing bowl gently lay the lid down, so that the handle is now coming towards you. Pictures would obviously help here. Maybe they will do that with the next manual. Anyhow, hope that helps.
cheers,
Melanie
I have had the same issue with difficulty putting the lid on since purchase and it has gotten to the point I would sell the whole damn thing and not look back, sooooo bloody frustrating!!!! Just had a fight with it again during pumpkin soup making. Over it. This issue needs to be addressed pronto by thermomix as if I had purchased in a store I would have returned it by now.

Agggghhhh!!
I've had my TM5 a few weeks, and my lid is doing exactly the same thing! Very disappointing, considering what we pay for the machine. I would be lucky to have made 8 hot dishes and today even though the arms closed down onto the lid, soup leaked out from under the lid while blending all over my machine. What a mess. Took forever for me to clean up. When the bowl is cold, the lid clicks down perfect, but today I was ready to throw it out the door it was so frustrating!!

I have been thinking about buy a Thermomix for months now.. BUT I think I have been convinced otherwise. Are all TM5's malfunctioning in some way?!
Hi emmahampton,
Your message has been flagged with our Service team. A member of the team will be contacting you directly.
I have also had problems with getting the lid on since I purchased it two months ago. Pretty disappointing considering the cost of this appliance. Is everyone just putting up with this? Or should I send it back? Or just get a new lid?
I've recently started to have this problem as well. It has become very difficult to put the lid back on the bowl when cooking hot dishes. It must take me at least 4-5 attempts to get it on properly. Like others, I'm a bit dissapointed that this issue has occurred, especially on such an expensive device.
