Hi, made it today for first time, not sure I followed recipe correctly so looking for feedback and tips. I used simmering basket as directed at step 1, but didn't take it out and put it back in again for step 2 (just put spices etc in and kept going). There was some residue in basket at end (including bay leaf) so figured it was ok but now not so sure). What do you think?

Just wanted to clarify - you placed the simmering basket on top of the mixing bowl lid instead of the Measuring Cup?


Yes, that's right until step 3 when I removed it and put in mc for blitzing

Thank you. The simmering basket is used on top instead of the MC to allow for some evaporation and at the same time prevent splatter onto your kitchen bench.

Can we also get you to clarify what you mean by residue left in the basket?


At first I thought it was bits of seeds and skin but on reflection I think it was brown sugar turned dark

Thank you for clarifying. The bottom of the simmering basket would have caught some of the splatter. You can clean it in your dishwasher or soak it before washing it.


It was reading the recipe wrong, I didn't appreciate that 'on top' was on the outside of the bowl too!!
