hello everyone, very new thermie owner here.. Have had it for about 3 weeks and love it but last night tried the first main meal from the basic cook book (have tried a few others from websites etc and had success).  We made the beef rendang and had been so excited to try this as it looks delicious in the book, however it was a total fail.

The sauce was very dry and tasted quite powdery.  The whole meal was very grey.  The worst thing though was the meat was so tough. I was skeptical about cooking gravy beef for 40 minutes as suggested as I think that takes quite a few hours to soften.  Has anyone else made this recipe and loved it?  We followed the recipe carefully so can't think what went wrong.  The only change we made was that we had no coconut milk so made some out of dessicated cocount (followed a thermie recipe to do so).  I know it sounds silly but am feeling a bit disheartened as I thought the cook book would be fairly fool proof.  Would love to hear how others found this recipe.
