I have now moved interstate & transported my TM5 successfully with Qantas. I repacked my TM as it was delivered (using all packing TM materials 1 Box inside another box). I also packed all my cookbooks in padded bags around the TM, shoved in tea/hand towels/extra bubble wrap etc to ensure it wouldn't  move. I put my cookbk chips in my handbag in a sml gladbag, each wrapped separately in a tissue. On the other TM original box, I wrapped "Fragile" red & white tape. I paid $30 freight( for one box up to 30kg) for 2 flights-Pt Macquarie to Sydney/Sydney to Darwin. Qantas were excellent with no tears/rips/damage to any of ctns I sent on the same plane with me. Was so excited to turn on my TM the next day & use. I did leave overnight so scales could stabilise if they needed to be...but it didn't  happen

I am moving states in 6wks, which will involve 2 flights & would like to know how other owners take their Thermomix's interstate by plane.

I am worried if I take my Thermo as extra luggage it could fall off the cart onto the tarmac & be ruined (my son was a baggage handler & I know things do get dropped accidentally & they are on a time limit so things have to be done in a hurry & accidents happen). I have contacted both Qantas & Virgin who do not have a solution as they will not insure the cost of the Thermo if this happens.

I contacted insurance companies to get quotes with only 1 saying they would insure it for $800. Private couriers are another solution but they want alot of money also due to the cost of replacement if something happens while in transit.

I rang the local travel agent & was told it could not be taken onboard as hand luggage as it would not fit in the overhead locker & if they do let it onboard then it would have to sit at the back of the plane on a shelf with nothing to stop it falling off if there is turbulence.......

Does anyone have an ideas of what I can do. I am at a dead end......

Regards

Sharon

I would like to have my thermie insured for when I take it for outings.  My current insurance company and one other that I've called both advised it is not covered outside the home under portable contents.  Can anyone in the community advise of a decent insurance company, that won't charge a ridiculous amount, who will insure it outside the home please?
