Forum Cooking rice
This is from a friend who uses the Thermomix to cook her rice by absorption. The quanities can be doubled:
250g of rice weighed into bowl Pour 480g(weighed into bowl) of BOILING water over rice. Cook 4-5 mins,on Varoma temp.,
, that is until water boils. Turn off and cover top with a tea towel. Leave for 25 mins. Fluff with fork.
Cooking rice is not hard. I deeply get interested each single piece of facts for cooking rice you post here. Thanks!
Thanks Snowbunny for the suggestion. It really sounds good help in cooking brown rice more soften.
Thanks, will try the slightly longer time. Really want to do it in the Thermomix and not my old rice cooker!
Hi Snowbunny,
The brown rice does take a lot longer than white rice, however should come up well and should be filling up the whole basket. A little tip: make sure you are washing your brown rice extremely well before popping it in the TM. I generally cook mine for 38 mins on Varoma (temp), speed 3-4.
You can absolutely cook some vegies in the Varoma tray/basket, however i would try this is the last 5-10 mins of the rice cooking as apose to starting both rice nad vegies at the same time.
I hope this helps
Hi snowbunny
This is my first ever post so lets see if I make it in to cyberspace! I have cooked brown rice once before and it took forever, so I do'nt have any immediate wisdom, but we are big bown rice eaters so I will have a go over the weekend and let you know. Watch this space.

hi everyone, We tried making our first batch of brown rice to accompany curry today but found ipthe qty too small in the steam basket. It also came up firmer in texture than in our rice cooker. How do you cook it so it is softer? Can you make larger quantities at once, say in the Varoma so you can cook say your curry at the same time in the TM bowl? Thanks, I'm hoping to not use the rice cooker!,
