Forum Cooking whole rabbit!
great job
I Ok so we tried to make a roast rabbit in the varoma.personally think it turned out a bit dry but that was prob my fault as I cooked it for too long.
However I used the juices in the bowl and made really nice gravy which I mixed through and it didn’t seem to taste as dry. Even a friend that came over for dinner said she wouldn’t even try it, however I dished it up for her, she scoffed the whole lot and said she didn’t think she would ever say it but it was beautiful!!!!
Ok so I put aprox 1.5 litres of water in the bowl.
I stuffed the rabbit with stalks of celery, rosemary, half a lemon cut in half so it would all fit in and bacon pieces. I then tied it together with coking twine to keep it all in there as well as bending it a bit to fit in the varoma!
I then placed it in the varoma dish and poured over a marinade made out of equal parts soy sauce and tomato sauce and minced garlic, making sure you turn it over to get both sides. I then sliced up some apple and placed it around as well as a about a handful of bacon pieces.
I then set it to varoma on speed 2. I cooked it for 30 minutes however as I said it was a bit dry so probably didn’t need cooking that long.
I then placed it into the thermoserve while I made the gravy.
As I had a bit of extra water left I poured half of it into a bowl to use later for a stock. I then added enough (I started with aprox 2 tablespoons but added more to reach my desired thickness!)Cornflour and put it on speed 4 until desired thickness.
To serve I took the meat off the rabbit, put that in a bowl, and added the stuffing (celery bacon apple) then poured over the gravy. That way it didn’t seem to taste as dry as there was gravy mixed through it!
Well today I am going to try and cook a whole rabbit in the varoma!
Will be stuffing the carcas with lemon, cellery herbs and placing sliced appleas around it. Will also put aprox 1.5lt water in the bowl.
I have cooked whole chicken and pork this way and it is always so nice, and I can't find any recipes on the net anywhere for a whole rabbit so thought I would give it a go!
Wish me luck. Will keep u all updated and let u know how it turns out.
