Glad I found this post the lid seal has really bothered me, it is particularly strong the day after using as yet I havnt made anything sweetbut the smell does not seem to transfer but I noticed the smell immediately after the demo

Hi there

I have heard of many remedies to try and fix this problem but the absolute best thing that I can recommend is to air your machine.  I remove the seal from my lid and store my Thermomix with the lid off and the seal out of the lid all the time.  It has made a huge difference and although the seal still smells a little if I stick my nose right up against it, the smell doesn't permiate the room.

If you have small children and are worried about them touching the blades without have the lid on, then store the bowl and blade up high so they can't reach it.

The smell won't transfer to other dishes so no worries there.

Hope this helps everyone.

Thanks for posting this question, I did my first cook of garlic and onion, herbs and also can't get the smell out. I was worried about cooking porridge this morning that it would transfer but it didn't,  maybe an extra seal would be good,  give a wiff and know which one to use with the correct dish, sweet or spicy lol !

My lid smells and so does my spatula.  The smells never transfer across foods though.

My seal is the same, garlic smell from the demo :(  I will have to let it air out a bit then, and maybe get a new seal, or second bowl?

My Demo when I first got my machine made my seal smell of Garlic Sad

I longer I left it out of the machine the better it got. I have though ordered 2 extra seals at $15 is always a good thing to have as a back up. Cooking 7

But I was a bit worried that I have not even owned my Thermo for a day and the seal was ruined, but it is now good Bigsmile

I agree... I tried soaking it in vanilla essence then putting it through the dishwasher. If I do enough sweet things in a row the onion-y smell goes... I don't want to own two seals and have to figure out which is which!

I hear you.... But if you think about...  Will the smell... Really get into other food....  Mostly the food does not really come in contact with the seal.....

Hi everyone. I have had my thermomix for about a week and have tried cooking lots including stock, curry, bread, yoghurt and sorbet. Unfortunately, I can't get the smell of sautéed onion and spices out of the lid seal. I have tried washing with soda bi carb, lemon and vinegar (even making a paste), putting through dishwasher, leaving in freezer and airing in sun. Nothing works. My area leader said I need to buy another seal (or 2) to use when cooking curries or sauté ing and use another for sweet stuff. After paying nearly $2000, for the machine, I think this is  a bit of a rip off. I love everything else about my thermomix but have found this really annoying! Any suggestions Puzzled Aw
