Ingredients

12 portion(s)

Trifle Base

  • 250 g Chocolate Cake pieces, - use any of the TM recipes for plain chocolate cake or buy a plain chocolate cake. I made the cake in two loaf pans, used half of one for the trifle and iced the other one for eating!
  • 1 jar Cherries, - can also use a tin of cherries
  • 1 package port wine jelly mix, - could also use a cherry jelly if you can find it
  • 1 portion Chocolate Custard, - make in accordance with instructions in the everyday cookbook
  • 600 g thickened cream
  • 20 g chocolate sprinkles

Recipe's preparation

    Trifle Base
  1. In the base of a glass serving dish place a layer of chocolate cake.

Drain the cherries - keep the juice.

Place the cherries on top of the chocolate cake

Make up the jelly mix using 250g of hot water and 200 g of the juice from the cherries.

Pour the jelly mix over the cake and cherries.

Set aside in the fridge until the jelly sets.

  2. Chocolate Custard
  3. Make the chocolate custard in accordance with the instructions in the Everyday Cookbook.

    Allow to cool.

A skin will form on the custard as it cools - mix for 5-10 seconds at speed 4 to ensure the custard has a smooth consistency before layering on top of the cake and jelly mix.

  4. Cream layer
  5. Whip the cream in the TM using the butterfly attachment.

Speed 4 for approx 30 seconds (see p11 of the Everday cooking for every family)

Layer the whipped cream on top of the custard in the trifle bowl.

Top with chocolate sprinkles or shaved chocolate -

you could also use some fresh cherries!

Tip

This trifle can be made a day ahead of serving. If using fresh cherries to top it off I would put these on just before serving so that juice does not leach into the cream.

I doubled the jelly and it just covered the sponge and cherries. I also doubled the custard. Waiting to do cream but so far it looks good. And is super easy to make
