If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

I milled the almonds first, 8-10 seconds speed 7, bowl must be very dry. Mill sugar 10-15 seconds speed 9. (As per EDC) Leave the cake in the tin on a cake rack until cool.
Better to do the oranges the day before. I don't bother with the icing. Delicious with vanilla yoghurt or Greek yoghurt with a dash of maple syrup.

Amazing! I have just been converted as I don't usually go for chocolate and orange. I also added chocolate and only 40g cocoa. I used almond flour as that is what I had. For icing I used the EDC ganache x 1.5 and I added orange rind. I used a 20cm cake tin and baked for 50minutes.

So yummy!! Made into cupcakes and they're beautiful and moist with a bit of a chewy top. Ate as is, no icing.
Added approx 50g dark (85%) chocolate in with almonds and used 40g cocoa.
Only 4 stars as I don't think the orange flavour was as strong as I would have liked.

Delicious cake! I added some dark chocolate when blitzing the almonds and found it only needed an hour to bake but will definitely bookmark this to make again!

Hallo! nigella says its to remove the bitterness from the oranges. In her original recipe she boils them. I thought the varoma would do the trick nicely

This looks really yummy! Can you tell me why you steam the oranges in the varoma? I just noticed that your whole orange cake recipe doesn't do this but this one does!

Thanks for the conversion. I have made this before by converting myself. It was great this time when I went to look for the recipe and found that you had converted it for me. It is a delicious cake. I use 150g of rapidura instead of regular sugar. We serve it with berries & cream rather than icing it. Thanks again ☺️

Two stars? That's a bit of a contrast from the previous rating. Sorry your family didn't like it. Some constructive feedback would have been appreciated.

  • I made this cake for a family

    Submitted by Riet O'Neill on 7. April 2015 - 12:39.

I made this cake for a family get together on Easter Sunday. Unfortunately it was not popular since most found it too rich and the icing way too sweet. Given the cost of the ingredients I don't think I'll make it again.
