Hi
I have a problem with the butterfly already damaged one while making mashed potatoe and had to have it replaced at my cost. Also contunue to have problem with making risotto the butterfly dislodges and unless i am close by it gets damaged - i have altered the speed when making risotto to a slower one and it seems to work - but this is an ongoing fault- that needs fixing.

I have the TM6 and the butterfly whisk comes out when doing mashed potato

I've had the same problem since I first bought my TM5. The instructions say to install it anticlockwise to ensure it stays attached under load, but given the mashed potato (our single most used recipe) rotates back and forth, that doesn't help.
I have to remove the whisk because it always becomes dislodged and damaged by the blades, wait for the potato to cook, then try to reinstall it in the hot mix before whisking. The whisk is covered in cuts from the blades, so I don't know how long before it's too damaged to use.
If the whisk clipped in that would be ideal, and I assumed I had a faulty whisk with a missing internal clip until I read the TM feedback in here.

Hi RoyalPalms

Sorry to hear you have experienced issues with your butterfly whisk.

We hope these instructions may assist, if not please feel free to contact our Customer Service Team, they are more than happy to answer your questions.

Place the Butterfly Whisk onto the blade.

Slightly turn it against the intended rotation of the blade. Turn the Butterfly Whisk anticlockwise to lock, if the blade is set to normal forward direction. It should be hooked under the blade now and it should not be possible to pull it off vertically.

Its ball-shaped end ensures that it can be removed easily. To remove the Butterfly whisk, hold the ball-shaped end and pull it out while turning it in both directions to release it from under the blade.

Do not add ingredients that might damage or block the butterfly whisk when it is attached to the blade and the motor is running. Make sure ingredients are not too large and the bowl is not overloaded. As per manufacturer’s instructions, do not use the Butterfly Whisk over speed 4, this will dislodge the Butterfly Whisk.

Warm regards

The butterfly whisk comes off while I am making mashed potatoes too. Has the whisk been upgraded recently for TM5?

Hi all,

Just a quick note to hopefully clarify some confusion about which direction to lock the whisk. (I notice Thermomix Australia has provided the correct information in another thread but this thread was the top Google hit for me.)

When running the motor forwards, the whisk should be locked anti-clockwise (against the front of the blades). When running the motor backwards, the whisk should be locked clockwise (against the back of the blades). If you imagine the motor starting to turn, you want it to push against the whisk.

While it can be locked under either pair of blades, I think it holds slightly better under the lower blades.

Something else to note - the mashed potatoes recipe runs the motor forwards. (I always assumed that it would run it backwards, which resulted in a few whisk oopses before before I realised this.)

I do think that the butterfly whisk retention mechanism could do with some improvement... hopefully this will be addressed in a future Thermomix.

Cheers,
Matt

I too have made the mashed potato recipe a couple of times now and the butterfly whisk has come off each time. Luckily it hasn't broken. I notice that Thermomix has replaced broken blades but it hasn't addresses the problem of why it is happening. Is it faulty blades or is the recipe wrong?

I thought it was all going so well.

I need to chat with Thermomix because after checking and double checking yesterday before walking away the blade still came off and now has a part of it sliced through. I came back at the end of a cycle (on speed 1) hooked on the blade that cut through it. Aw

If we are getting answers like this from thermomix then it is no wonder that everyone has problems. The blades rotate in a clockwise direction so when the butterfly is locked in they say to rotate it clockwise. When pressure from ingedients is placed on butterfly it is going to be pushed backwards so it is not locked in anymore. Get some sort of accurate information and remove old wrong information

Hello,

I was making the mash potato and the butterfly whisk came off and was damaged. It now does not clip in properly and continually comes off when I use it. Not sure why this happened, as i had followed the automated recipe to a 'T'. Can you please advise on how I can go about getting a new one? Thank you very much!

having exactly the same problem everytime I use the butterfly.

Hi,

My whisk has also come out whilst making risotto, but the last time I made mashed potato and it came out and actually was damaged and I ended up with bits of the whisk in the mash. I also had manually turn it off as it scared the living daylights out of me, as the noise was terrible.

Hi Amos30

We passed your post onto our Customer Service team this morning and I believe someone has already been in contact.

We hope your issue has been rectified.

Have a lovely day.

I too am having the same problem, I am currently look online to see if I am putting it on correct. But every time I make risotto I have the wisk come off and in the mix. This is causing me to remove all contents to ensure I put it back on properly. It has made some damage to my wisk, but I think it works properly. Is it a faulty batch?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I am having the exact same problem! Is it a faulty batch, perhaps? Very frustrating. At first I thought I wasn't cutting the pieces of potato small enough, but even if I cut them smaller than 1cm cubed (a tedious experience!) the butterfly whisk still typically comes off during cooking.

Thank you Thermomix, I've already received an email that a new whisk is on it's way. Fantastic service, thank you again.

I've had exactly the same problem with my butterfly whisk.  While whisking the cream it came off and is now mangle at the bottom. How do you prevent this from happening? Am I able to get a replacement whisk?

Tank you so much for the new whisk.  Smile

I must say I'm impressed with Thermomix customer service. After posting my experience with the butterfly whisk I was sent a brand new one. I'm very grateful.

I have the same problem with my Butterfky whisk! It keeps coming off when making mashed potato! The other day I was whisking up some cream and the whisk came off, popped the middle of the lid off and I ended up with cream all over my kitchen! Lucky it wasn't hot! Now my whisk is shredded and broken as it got caught in the blades

Exact same problem here! Tried making mashed potatoes and had to tip them out to replace the whisk 5 times while making them, super annoying! Has happened with the risotto too...

I also have this issue especially with the mash. When a piece of potato causes a jam and the TM puts a reverse move in before restarting it simply unlocks and comes loose.  :(

I am also having this problem and find it infuriating!! The thermomix is supposed to make things easier however every time I try and make recipes requiring the butterfly whisk, I find myself having to empty the machine several times so that I can re insert the whisk. This is time consuming and messy.

Hi guys,  I've had the exact same problem!  Not so much with the risotto, but literally every single time I make mash potato I have to tip the potato's out several times and try and attach the wisk again.  I always give it a test and it seems fine, but as soon as the potato's start again it becomes wobbly.  So frustrating!

I am new to thermomix and the second night we had it and the butterfly kept coming off. This seems to be the only thing I am disappointed in. It seems to be too big of an attachment and doesnt stay on securly. We had to take the contents of the risotto out several times in making it.

I have had exactly the same problem everytime I use the butterfly. I love my thermie but the butterfly doesn't work Aw

When you turn it clockwise and then lift it, it shouldn't have any give or twist off. I find that the butterfly should sit under the lower blade.

I made risotto a few times but last night I had puree rice and read posts about the correct method to place the butterfly whisk I am still can't make the risotto like I did before.

I've also had issues with the butterfly coming off while doing the mashed potatoes. I'm pretty sure I had it inserted correctly, I put it on and turned it clockwise so that it felt like it was securely on. As soon as it got to the mashing step, it just came off.

Anyone have any ideas?

I am also having problems with my butterfly whisk coming off. It seems every time I try and use it within a minute or two it comes off. Has happened when making rissoto and also in other receipes. I am inserting it before other ingredients are added but it makes no difference.  When making risotto it came off at least 3 times and each time I stopped the machine and empty the contents and reinserted.
