For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

  1. Put water in your kettle and turn it on.
  2. Place the salt in your Thermomix Bowl and blend for 10 seconds on Speed 8[/b]. It will be a fine powder when you’re done. Add in the cream of tartar and blitz for 2 seconds on Speed 8[/b] to combine.
  3. Pour in the boiling water and cook at 60° on Speed 4 for 4 minutes[/b].
  4. Add the flour and blitz for 40 seconds on Speed 3[/b]. It should be combined, but if not blitz for a little longer.
  5. Add the oil and then pulse until mixed together. Scrape the playdough from your Thermomix Bowl onto a clean benchtop. If you don’t want food colouring to touch your benchtop you can do this in a bowl. I like to poke a hole into the dough and pour in a few drops of food colouring. Knead to spread the colouring throughout the dough.
  6. As you’re kneading your dough, you’ll be able to tell whether you need more flour or not. This will depend on how much food colouring you’ve used. If the dough is wet, or sticking to your benchtop, sprinkle a little extra flour {1 tsbp at a time} and knead until it is no longer sticky.
  7. Store in an airtight container or in a seal-able bag. This lasts for a few months. Enjoy!

Brilliant recipe, thank you. I added the food colouring to the water as I only needed 1 colour for Sunday School.
