Ingredients

12 portion(s)

  • 200 g pumpkin, 2cm cubed
  • 1000 g water
  • 50 g sugar
  • 50 g Butter, cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 350 g Self Raising Flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp Milk, to glaze
5

Recipe's preparation

    Pumpkin Scones
  1. Prepare pumpkin and place into Varoma dish.

Place water into the TM jug, set Varoma into position and steam 20 minutes / Varoma temperature / speed 1

Check that pumpkin is cooked and set Varoma aside.

Discard water, rinse and dry TM jug

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees celcius

Mill sugar for 10 seconds / speed 7

Add butter and mix for 8 seconds / speed 7

Add the rest of the ingredients including the pumpkin and bring together 5 seconds / speed 5

Set to closed lid position and knead for 25 seconds / Interval speed

Tip the dough onto your Thermomat, flour your hands and press the dough into a 3cm thick round.  The dough should be a firm but moist mixture.

Cut out 12 scones and place them onto a baking paper lined tray, just touching each other and bursh with a little milk.

Bake for 10 - 12 minutes at  or until golden brown and bottom sounds hollow when tapped.

These cooked up really well using gluten free SR flour. Would cut the sugar next time as I found it made them a bit too sweet. Great recipe. Will certainly be making again. Smile

Pretty sure I have made this from scratch before, and it was yummy then.

Tonight I used 200gm of leftover pumpkin soup and it was a perfect soft dough. We've eaten 2 straight out of the oven 😁

Smile This is a very nice recipe. I use the extra flour as others have suggested. I've made these at least five times now and they have been lovely every time. Nice with butter and cheese. Mr 2 loves them. I freeze them and put them into his lunch box. They freeze well for a short time.

  • The pumpkin I used was a QLD

    Submitted by garthandrea on 17. April 2016 - 16:42.

The pumpkin I used was a QLD blue not sloppy at all, so the 350g was the perfect amount of flour. The scones turned out great. Second batch is just out of the oven with added dates and walnuts yummy! (I used a little less flour to compensate for added ingredients)

  • First time making pumpkin

    Submitted by Meeshstraty on 17. August 2015 - 13:33.

First time making pumpkin scones in my thermi. They turned out great thankyou! After reading the comments and noting that my pumpkin was quite watery I added 400g SR flour rather than the 350g then sprinkled some on thermomat when I turned dough out.

The dough was very sticky but with the flour on the mat and a little extra sprinkled over the top it was easy enough to cut out rounds and place on tray.

Was a hit with my pumpkin hating husband and children!

Almost as good as Grandma's  tmrc_emoticons.;)

    Submitted by SallyAddison on 26. July 2015 - 22:38.

The 1000g water does throw you off - maybe this should be juat added in to the med rather than the recipes, as newbies may add the litre to the dough!

    Submitted by SassyMatt on 5. July 2015 - 18:02.

I took the advice of others and used a little extra flour (400g in total) when I could see the dough was still quite wet. Mine turned out somewhat dry, though. I think I will try them again with the recommended 350g.

Very easy to make & delicious! I found it very hard to get all the very sticky mixture out of the jug, but then I am a newbie so I may just need more practice. Once pressed out on a board I had no more problems with stickyness than I've had with scone mixture before. Yum!

Made these for the second time - used 400g flower and absolutely perfect, no stickiness and of course delicious  tmrc_emoticons.8)

My dough was very very sticky.  Did the recipe exactly as written.... and no I did not use any of the water tmrc_emoticons.). I even put my pumkin on paper towel for 15 minutes before using.  I ended up adding an extra 100 grams of flour.  Still very sticky to get out of the bowl.  Sprinkled extra flour before cutting and made it just right.  Came out lovely.  Think next time I will ad 450gms flour straight up.

  • Hi Melbrewin, we can't see in

Submitted by Thermomix in Australia on 26. August 2014 - 11:54.

Hi Melbrewin, we can't see in the recipe where it says to add 100g of water so maybe that was the issue. Also, pumpkins can vary in water content so you may find you need to add a little extra flour if you have watery pumpkins.
