Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your scales. We will pass your post onto our Customer Service team. However in the interim you can try the following... our apologies if you have already.
- Check that your bench is flat and the machine is not sitting on a join. Ensure the bench is solid and doesn’t rock.
- Check the 3 rubber scale sensors (the feet) under the machine to ensure they are clean and there is nothing stuck to them i.e. a grain of rice.
- Check the power cable is fully extended from the machine. Approximately 1 metre.
- Check the power cable or other items are not touching the machine or tucked under the machine.
- Turn the Power off and remove the plug, then when ready to test, plug it in and turn on the machine.
- Zero scales and place a full 1kg packet of rice/flour/sugar (i.e. something with a known weight). The scales should show weight of product plus packaging weight. It’s best not to use a can.
- After 10 minutes, repeat the above test, use a different product if possible.
- Note – when pushing the scale button, be sure that you are not touching the machine with your other hand.
- Record the weights of the original items, to pass on to the Customer Service team member - when they ring
The technicians need as much information as you can provide so as to help them in the diagnosis and repair of your machine.
Please note there could be a variance of 10 – 20 grams (up or down) from the stated weight due to calibration tolerances set by Vorwerk.
I have not had a problem with my Thermomix TM5 in the time I have owned it. (Mind you I haven't really used it as much as I justified to the hubby that I would). This afternoon I decided I needed to make another batch of stock paste and when I went to weigh my cellery the scales were unresponsive. I tried turning off and turning on again with no luck. I looked up trouble shooting and followed all that was suggested and still no luck. The scales are not registering anything and when I jiggled the mixing bowl 'Max' momentarily flashes up then straight back to 0000. I noticed reading the forums that I am not the only person experiencing this problem. It must be a fault with these machines.
I am not sure what to do. Anyone got any suggestions.

I am also having this same problem. it has been happening for almost a year. I have tried all the troubleshooting points mentioned in previous posts with no success and the scales have not worked at all for a few months now (before that they would measure sometimes but not others). My consultant arranged for someone to call me in March 2016 from Thermmix who told me they were going to arrange for a return label to be sent for the machine to be repaired but the label was never sent. My consultant no longer sells Thermomix and so I am now stuck with a machine that cannot weigh.
I would appreciate it if you could help me to get this fixed as it has been a problem for far too long!

My Scales started flickering up and down, not maintaining an accurate weight about 8 weeks ago, when using both the seperate scale function and the recipe chip, I went away for 6 weeks during which my thermomix wasn't used and was packed away and now the scales have totally stopped working. I have read the posts and cleaned the feet and ensured the power cord is pulled all the way out, however this hasn't helped. My machine is only 18 months old and this is the 4th major issue to go wrong with my machine, rendering it unusable each time.
Sorry to hear your TM5 scales do not appear to be working.
If you have not already, clean the feet (ensure there is not any sugar or rice stuck to the bottom). The machines power cable needs to be completely extended (and not interfered with) in order for the scales to not be affected and read the weight in the mixing bowl.
Zero scales and place a full 1kg packet of rice/flour/sugar (i.e. something with a known weight). The scales should show weight of product plus the packaging weight. Do not use a can/tin.

This seems to be a serious "global" issue, that Vorwerk is obviously not able to solve. I live in Germany, where the TM5 is being produced, and here the forums are full of the same complaints. My TM5 is 5 month old, the scale is not working since yesterday. I tried every hint that I could find on German websites, but with no effect. So I hoped to find a solution here among English speaking users of TM, but obviously here the helplessness is just the same. Sometimes I wonder wether one should not spread this problem to a broader public, as to caution the hype around the TM5. At least I won't recommend buying it anymore to anyone.

My TM5 scales are not working now either. I have had so many issues with my thermomix since I got it. Needed bowl replaced, overheating so kept shutting down, pureeing hot soup and the lid leaked and now scales not working. I really think I have a dud now. I'm not happy at all after outlaying so much money.
I have just finished making something and the scales were fine, I have cleaned the bowl about to make something else and now the scales won't tare. I have cleaned the feet and checked nothing is touching but that doesn't help. Can you please help head office? Thank you.
Sorry to hear your TM5 scales do not appear to be working.
I see you've cleaned the feet however I have spoken to some members of the team and they have advised that the machines power cable needs to be completely extended (and not touched by anything) in order for the scales to not be affected and read the weight in the mixing bowl.
The measuring cup should weigh between 30-35 grams. In the interim if you like to try and weigh the MC and see whether this works.

Hi I have had my machine for 7 weeks and the scales have stopped working. The machine sits on my bench with very little movement. I have cleaned the feet after reading the trouble shooting guide. Any other suggestions? Or how do I log an issue? Thanks in advance for any tips
My original note was on 29 May and I still have not had any phone call regarding the issue of scales like everyone is experiencing. It seems Customer Service is more than 2 days behind in responding.

I was curious about warranty as well and found this on the Thermomix website:
"Thermomix ® including the Varoma and Recipe Chip carry a 24 month warranty against faulty parts and workmanship when used in a domestic environment and a 12 month warranty against faulty parts and workmanship when used in a commercial environment."
So if your Thermie is used domestically at home it is still covered under the 24mth warranty
My scales have always worked perfectly up until today. I went to weigh ingredients and the scales stay on 0000. I cleaned the feet, made sure the cord was out and reset the machine. The service centre is not open today and no answers have been given on here. My thermomix is a year and a half old and I'm guessing it will need to go back to be fixed. Is my machine out of warranty and if yes how much will this cost? So not happy right now

I called the service centre yesterday and was told that there were no effective trouble shooting methods for this issue.
I am sending my brand new thermomix for repairs this week.

Hi Melissa,
I was curious about warranty as well and found this on the Thermomix website:

So not happy right now
Melissa xx
