Authentic Butter Chicken

Ingredients

4 portion(s)

Butter Chicken

  • 600 grams chicken thighs, cut into 4cm cubes
  • 80 grams margarine
  • 1 large onion, peeled and quartered
  • 2 tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 150 grams tomato paste
  • 250 grams cream

Marinade (Spice Mix)

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon tumeric
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garam masala (EDC)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1 teaspoon garlic

Recipe's preparation

    Butter Chicken
  1. Before you get started cut chicken thighs into cubes and place into a bowl with the spice mix. Coat the chicken well and set aside in the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes

    Once chicken has been set aside for 30 minutes chop onion for 5 seconds / speed 5

  2. Add margarine and cinnamon and saute for 3 minutes / Varoma / Speed 1

  3. Add tomatoes and cook for 2 minutes / Varoma / Speed 1

    Once cooked blend for 5 seconds / speed 5

  4. Insert butterfly and add chicken

    Cook for 10 minutes / Varoma / Speed 1

  5. Add cream and tomato paste and cook for 15 minutes / 100 degrees / Speed 1

  6. Serve with rice and your fav naan bread... Enjoy!

    This butter chicken was very nice and mild. Next time I would add curry to give it a bit more flavour/spice. Looked exactly like the picture. Used butter not margarine.

    Absolutely delish!
    Had to make a couple of adjustments due to a last minute decision to cook...
    Used 1 tin of diced tomatoes instead of two tomatoes
    Didn't have cream so used 1cup of skim milk with 2 tbs of corn flour whisked together
    Added 3 tbs of almond meal in final 2mins of cooking to thicken the sauce
    Thanks so much for sharing, can't wait to try the real recipe when I'm more prepared!

    Amazing!!! And so much easier and quicker than the recipe I usually use.

    I blitzed some cashews first and set them aside as I only had tinned tomatoes - I added them to the bowl for the last 2 minutes of cooking to thicken the sauce.

    I also used fresh garlic and ginger that I whizzed up before adding the powdered spices and the chicken to mix through.

    I also cooked on 100'C as I was using breast and did it on reverse, soft speed just so it didn't shred.

    This made enough for a meal and enough to freeze a meal which is always a bonus.

    A very nice, easy, creamy butter chicken recipe that we all loved. I changed to a tin of tomatoes and no tomato paste - as I didn't have any, swapped margarine for butter but only used 200 g cream. I also blitzed a hand of cashews in for flavour. Very tasty.

    easy recipe and whole family enjoyed it. You can also make your own tomato paste and use that. I like the BCB a little better though i think with the addition of cashews. Just from a nutrition perspective. very yummy though thanks.
