Recipe's preparation

    Dumplings
  1. 1         Place shallots, garlic, ginger, coriander and carrot into the TM bowl. Chop on speed  7 for 10 seconds. Cook on 3 minutes/100/Spd 3.

2         Add Water Chestnuts to TM bowl. Mix for 4 sec/spd 5.

3        Add Mince, Egg, Oil, Sauces and Salt and Pepper. Mix on 30 sec/spd 3, or until combined into a paste.

4         Place a small spoonful of mixture (just under a teaspoon) in to the centre of each wonton wrapper. Pinch together firmly together to seal.

5      If Steaming in Varoma, clean TM bowl and place 600g water into the TM bowl. Put dumplings into varoma, making sure they don't touch each other (otherwise they stick together).

6         Steam for 15 min/Varoma/Speed 4. Alternately, wontons can be deep fried until crispy and golden.

  2. Dipping Sauce
  3. 1. Blend Onion, carrot, garlic and chillies for 10 sec/speed 5. Scrape down sides of bowl.

    2. Add Olive Oil and saute 8 min/100/speed 1.

    3. Add tomatoes and salt. Cook 16 minutes/100 speed 2. Blend 20 sec/speed 7.

    4. Pour into serving bowl. Freeze leftover sauce.

  4. Notes
  5. Freezing Dumplings:

Dumplings can be frozen and used as a healthy snack, or when you have unexpected visitors pop in!

Store them in a container, separated with cling film or freezer go-between, making sure they don't touch each other, otherwise they will stick together.

When you remove them from the freezer, dip each dumpling briefly into water to wet the wrapper before placing into the varoma. They will need to be steamed for approximately 20 minutes from frozen.

Alternately, dumplings can be deep fried until crispy.

    Dipping Sauce

In lieu of the dipping sauce, Soy Sauce could be served to dip dumplings into.

The dumplings were very tasty and made heaps! I used 2 packets of wonton wrappers and could have possibly used a another (just kept for leftovers as didnt have a 3rd pack). My 3 and 5 year old kids approved. I do agree that the dipping sauce is a bit of a puree but i popped some along with soy sauce on my plate and loved the combination. I would definitely make it again.

I made the sauce to have with spring rolls. I agree with previous posts - it's a carrot purée. I can't use this as a dipping sauce as it's way too thick and the flavour doesn't go with the spring rolls, or the wontons I would assume.
disappointing as I need to now get another sauce .

    Submitted by Hedger on 22. May 2016 - 14:01.

Dumplings were very yummy and a big hit with the family.

However the sauce really didn't go with them. Not a great flavour match. Everyone just ate with soy sauce.

    Will make dumplings again.

I should've mentioned that I only made the dumplings, not the sauce as we prefer soy or chilli oil over the top.

Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe.  My thermie came out of its box last week and this was the first thing I have made without the recipe chip!  It was easy and they look wonderful.  I also didn't make the sauce, just used light soya sauce garnished with shallots.  I also didn't use Varoma, but did combination of frying bottom and steaming top in the same pan.

  • I didn't make the dipping

    Submitted by Mahls on 24. September 2015 - 16:44.

I didn't make the dipping sauce, but the dumplings were delicious! Froze the cooked leftovers and reheated them in the varoma when needed and they tasted like they were just freshly cooked. Will definitely be making these again.

  • this recipe was spot on as to

    Submitted by kuarta on 8. February 2015 - 12:49.

this recipe was spot on as to flavour I wanted in my dumplInge. I didn't make your sauce as I have always just used soy sauce with a bit of lemon juice, which I think is the perfect sauce for any steamed dumpling. I will definitely be making this again. Especially now that I have learned how to shape them in the wrapper!

  • my experience : as i live in

    Submitted by marion.syratt on 16. December 2014 - 13:09.

my experience : as i live in a rural community, sometimes it is difficult to find ingredients. two towns and four supermarkets later i found wonton wrappers. They were quite small, and only 30 in the pack. I should have bough two packs! There was so much filling left over - which i fried in little meatball shapes. They were ok.

Problem i experienced was that even though the wrappers were small, i couldn't fit too many at once into the varoma steamer and tray, which meant doing them in batches

And i agree with earlier poster that the sauce was not unlike a carrot puree

Overall, quite disappointed, and wont be doing this one again. Sorry

  • I made these for my sons 4th

    Submitted by lizzy74 on 12. June 2014 - 20:36.

I made these for my sons 4th birthday and they were a hit!

I made them in advance and froze individually by wrapping in glad wrap - this was a real drag when unwrapping as the wrappers were soft and sticking - might try baking paper next time.

Flavours were amazing and they made me look like I was a really good cook tmrc_emoticons.)

  • I haven't tried the dumplings

    Submitted by cristan on 4. June 2014 - 19:58.

I haven't tried the dumplings from this recipe, I used another recipe for them. However, I did make the dipping sauce and it was absolutely ghastly. It was far too thick and tasted like carrot puree with a bit of a kick from the chillies. Had I used this with the dumplings, there was no way you could have scooped the dumplings through this sauce, they would have broken up. Is there perhaps something missing, some ingredient left out of this sauce? I DID notice that the only liquid in this recipe came from a couple of tomatoes and unfortunately it wasn't enough to thin the sauce to make it more of a proper dipping sauce.

I'm sure the dumplings would be just fine but the sauce, no, sorry.
