Ingredients

12 piece(s)

  • 380 g Self Raising Flour
  • 45 g Butter (salted,cold)
  • 250 g Milk or Non-dairy Substitute
5

Recipe's preparation

  1. Pre heat oven to 220°C. Begin making these scones only after oven has reached temperature.

Place flour into TM bowl. Add butter. Mix for 12 secs, speed 5. Mixture will look like fine breadcrumbs.

Add milk or milk substitute . Mix 15 secs speed 3 to form a soft dough. Do not overmix or scones will be tough.

Turn dough onto well-floured Thermomat or board, sprinkle more flour on top and gently pat into 3-4cm thickness.

Use MC or cookie cutter to cut rounds. Place close together on tray lined with baking paper.

    Bake for 10-12 minutes.

I just made these. Very soft and light trick is to play with the dough as less as possible. Done in oven about 220c fan forced for 10mins. I also made chocolate ones. I subbed 10-15g of flour for cocoa powder. Delish!

    Submitted by shebby2055 on 26. September 2015 - 20:02.

Always made scones the old fashioned way by rubbing butter into the flour but this recipe done in the Thermomix is just as good. Makes awesome scones.

Can you swap self-raising flour for gluten free self raising flour.  If so does it turn out as good

  • Scone dough should be soft

    Submitted by sharoncb on 1. October 2014 - 22:07.

Scone dough should be soft and not handled very much otherwise they turn out like rock cakes. Plenty of flour on the board was the right thing to do, Aquajade.

The dough was quite soft and a bit difficult to handle. The board had to be very well sprinkled with flour. Scones turned out fluffy and delicious!
