  • 260 grams plain flour
  • 275 grams sugar
  • 70 grams cocoa powder
  • 9 grams bicarbonate of soda
  • 5 grams salt
  • 390 grams buttermilk
  • 125 grams margarine, soft
  • 2 eggs

      For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

    Method
  1. 1. Add flour, sugar, cocoa, soda and salt to TM bowl and mix on speed 4 for 10 seconds.
    2. Add buttermilk, margarine, eggs and vanilla and beat on speed 4 for 30 seconds, scrape down sides of bowl.
    3. Beat on speed 5 for 2 minutes.
    4. Pour batter into prepared greased and floured 2 x 20cm cake pans at 180 degrees without fan for 25-30 minutes or until it springs back when lightly touched. Other pans 20cm square 60- 70 minutes or 27x18cm slab for 40-45 minutes.
    5. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, invert and store on wire rack to cool completely. Decorate with using choice of icing, buttercream or frosting.
