Orange Poppy Seed Cake

  • 150 grams sugar
  • 250 grams Self Raining Flour
  • 2 Eggs.
  • 130 grams soft butter, Room Temperature
  • 130 grams Milk
  • 10 grams poppy seeds
  • 1 Orange rind, Keep Orange for Icing

Orange Butter Icing

  • 150 grams icing sugar
  • 60 grams soft butter
  • 2 tsp Orange Jucie

      If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
      For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

    Orange Poppy Seed Cake
  1. 1) Select your cake tin, a good size is a 20 cm, grease the tin and preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

     

    2) Place sugar into TMX Bowl 3sec/0temp/speed9 

     

    3) Then add butter 20sec/0temp/speed4 

     

    4) Scrape down sides of TM Bowl, attach butterfly attachment, add orange rind, place TM Lid back on and 40sec/0temp/speed4 

     

    5) Whislt this is happening drop one egg at a time through the hole of the lid, then add MC and then 30sec/0temp/speed4 

     

    6) Add flour, milk and poppy seeds 30sec/0temp/speed4

     

    7) Scrape down sides of TM Bowl and butterfly

    9) Cake batter should now be quite thick but light, pour batter into your greased cale tin and place in oven for 30-35 mins depending on your oven. Remember to use a cake skewer to insert into the cake as the skewer should come out clean with no batter stuck to it

     

    10) Remove cake from oven and let stand for 10 mins on a wire rack cooling.

  3. 11) Add butter, icing sugar into the TM Bowl, 20sec/0temp/speed5 

     

    12) Add orange juice from the orange which you got your rind, 1min/0temp/speed5. Remember that the longer you mix the lighter your icing will be so if you need longer repat this process one more time.

     

    13) Spread your icing onto your cake enjoy....

    Unfortunatly our cake was pretty dry & didnt really have a strong orange flavour even though we added extra orange.
