  • 1 Iceberg Lettuce
  • 20 grams olive oil
  • 1 brown onion
  • 500 grams pork or beef mince
  • 1 carrot small, cut in chunks
  • 1 zucchini, cut in chunks
  • 1 red capsicum small, deseeded and cut into chunks
  • 1 Corn cob, corn kernels removed
  • 80 grams oyster sauce
  • 60 grams tomato sauce

Recipe's preparation

    San Choy Bau
  1. With core of lettuce facing down, bang core on a flat surface. This will make it easy to remove whole core by twisting and pulling out. Discard outer leaves. Seperate leaves and place in a large bowl of icy cold water. Refrigerate until required.

  2. Put carrot, zucchini and red capsicuim into mixing bowl and grate 2-3 sec / speed 8. Set aside


     

  3. Put onion into mixing bowl and chop 3-4 sec / speed 7. Add oil and saute for 1 min / Varoma / speed 1


    Add mince, and cook for 4 min / Varoma / Reverse / speed 1-2


    Add Set aside vegetables, corn, Oyster and tomoto sauce 


    Cook for a further 6min / Varoma / Reverse / speed 1-2 (Make sure meat is throughly cooked, cook for a further 2 mins if needed)

  4. Drain lettuce leaves. Pat dry with paper towel. Place lettuce cups on a platter. Spoon mince mixture into lettuce cups. Serve.

Tip

You can mince your meat before you start.

You can also add any quick cooking vegetables you like. eg (peas, brocilini etc.) or take some away if you don't like them.

    This was great, I added mushrooms & 1/4 shredded chinese cabbage in the last 5 mins. Very healthy, didn't have oyster sauce so used Kecap manis instead & drained off excess liquid. Will do again, thanks for sharing.

     I put all the mixture into my thermoserver and then use a slotted spoon to let the mixture drain a little before placing into the lettuce leaves.

  • Loved the taste but the

    Loved the taste but the consistency was soup-like. I couldn't drain it as I would have been left with nothing. I definitely recommend mincing your own meat (less water than store bought mince) and draining the vegie mix thoroughly.

    Very easy and turned out good! Just drained liquid and served on lettuce leaves. Even my 3 year old love it tmrc_emoticons.)
