Recipe's preparation
Chop garlic and spring onion for 3 seconds, speed 6
Add soy and oyster sauce and mix for 4 seconds, speed 4
Add chicken pieces to marinade mixture and stir for 2 seconds, "Counter-clockwise operation" speed 3
Tip chicken out of TM bowl onto top tray of Varoma and spread evenly, ensuring there are steam holes visible. DON'T WASH THE TM BOWL!!
** Optional: Add vegetables of choice to bottom half of Varoma (you may want to do this with only 10 minutes remaining if you have soft vegetables, but harder vegetables like carrots etc can take the 20 minutes to steam. Use your steaming guide in the front of your EDC to decide when to add the vegetables)
Insert basket into TM bowl. Weigh rice (between 200-400g depending on how much you need for your family. We use around 200g for 2 adults and 3 small children). Add 500g of water. To rinse rice, put the lid on and turn speed up to 4 for 5 seconds or so until the rice is all wet (look through the top while it is rinsing)
Cook on Varoma temperature for 20 minutes, speed 2
Use your spatula to remove basket of rice and tip into a Thermoserver, then add chicken and vegetables and serve.

As per the below comment, I cooked 400gm rice with 1ltr water. Added chopped chilli, honey, fish sauce and fresh ginger to marinade sauce and stirred through chicken and popped into fridge for 1hr. Added heaps of vegies hard and soft into the bottom varoma tray with hard veg at the bottom and soft veg on top. Poured chicken and marinade into top tray lined with dampened baking paper. Cooked for 35 minutes. Perfect.

Such a great easy but tasty recipe! Have made this several times and the whole family approved. Love how it’s all done in the thermomix. I cooked rice and chicken for 30mins as it wasn’t quite ready at 20. I have even done this recipe with fish instead of chicken and that was sensational ❤️

Loved this meal! I had left
Loved this meal! I had left over rice, so just followed the recipe for the rest. Once the chicken was sitting on the rice on our plates, I just spooned some of the cooking juice over it, which made for really flavoursome, tasty rice that totally complimented the chicken. Definitely on the cook again list!
Highly recommend this very
Highly recommend this very easy all in one meal! I followed some of the comments and used 1L water and cooked on varoma speed 4 (in my TM5) and the rice, chicken and veg were all cooked to perfection. I also left the chicken to marinade overnight and added cashews. Seriously delicious, thank you

VERY YUMMY! I upped the amount of water and the speed to help cook the rice through a bit better. Will definitely be making again. Quick, easy, tasty family dinner
Hello! I loved this recipe,
Hello! I loved this recipe, nice and healthy and delicious! Thank you for sharing! I had thighs with bones, I removed the skin. Only had spring onions and eschalottes, I used 3 spring onions, 3 eshalottes and 2 garlic cloves. I only had soy sauce and fish sauce, used 60 grams of soy sauce and 20 grams of fish sauce. the rice cooked this way is absolutely delicious, its almost like an Asian style risotto! and so are the veggies in varoma and the chicken, the only thing the thighs took 30 minutes to cook through. Cheers!
Love all-in-one meals. I
Love all-in-one meals. I actually prepped this the night before and left chicken marinade overnight. I didn't cook rice from scratch as I had leftovers but put it in to reheat at the 10 minute mark. Chicken was cooked beautifully and very moist. Portion size provided my family of 4 with leftovers. Great recipe and will make again.
Well after quickly reading
Well after quickly reading comments and deciding to cook this at the last minute this is what I did. I cooked rice in the microwave in vegetable stock (1 tbsp) in 2 cups of water and one cup of rice. I used soy sauce, Hoi sin sauce and a dash of fish sauce as I had no oyster sauce. I used half a red onion as I had no spring onion. I had carrots cut in fingers and broccoli in the bottom tray and cooked the chicken on wet baking paper on top tray. It kept all the sauce with the chicken. I didn't leave to marinate, I cooked it straight away. Also put a little stock into the water for steaming the vegies and chicken. 20 mins was perfect for both my chicken pieces and veggies. Everyone loved this meal and I will be cooking it again. Will try adding a little honey next time as others suggested but loved it how it was. Thanks for this easy recipe. I bathed my kids while it was cooking. Win win.
This is yummy I used Tamari
This is yummy I used Tamari sauce instead of soy and added some sweet Chilli sauce and Coconut sugar to get the balance right. I also added some cashew nuts and a tsp of veg stock into the liquid at the ended I blitzed it on speed 9 for about 1 minute the sauce was nice and creamy!

The thing with cooking rice in a thermomix is water volume + speed + time. In my TM5 i use 1000g of water at speed 4 to cook 400g of medium grain rice for 18 minutes. Perfect every time with my satay chicken.
As for using rice water as a sauce, maybe consider using wet, wrung out baking paper in the varoma for your chicken. This will still cook the chicken, but keep it with the marinade and stop the chicken from drying out.
We're making this tonight with my alterations, will see how it goes.
As others have mentioned
As others have mentioned needed to extend time for rice but we love this easy mid week dinner.

Love that this is an all-in-one dish. Same problem with the rice so I added more water but that then made the sauce very thin even after adding cornflour and kecap manis as suggested here. Found it quite bland so I'll spice it up more next time.

No idea, but I want to know the answer too! I have the exact same problem, so much so my husband is now saying stop using it to cook rice!!!
Great recipe i added honey
Great recipe i added honey to the sauce and used chicken stock instead of water, also used half a onion as i didn't have any spring onion. Really yummy. Made a sauce with the left over liquid, by thickening with arrowroot. Family loved it, will make again.

Made this last night in my TM5 - needed to add more water because after 20 minutes my rice wasn't cooked at all. But once the rice was cooked it was lovely, got the approval from the husband and 2 year old so will definitely be making this one again!

Fantastic all in one meal! My first official meal in "Sparkles the Thermomix" (named by my children) and the entire family loved it. Cooked some corn, carrots and brocoli at the same time and it was all perfect. Thank you for a delicious and easy meal
Perfect quick meal to cook
Perfect quick meal to cook for family after work. Prepared marinade and chicken in the morning, cooked when I got home. I also did as others suggested and added cornflour and ketchup manis to left over water and cooked on Varoma temp for a few minutes, it made a lovely sauce. Everyone loved it and requested we have it again.

I marinated the chicken then cooked in the bowl with 25g oil for 15 mins on reverse, speed 1 and served with fried rice. It was very tasty, just a little salty.

Silly me didn't realise I'd lose most of my marinade back into the veggies & then water - so the chicken was a bit dry. Next time I'll make sure I make some sort of a sauce out of the leftovers! (And prepare myself for soy-veg!)

I felt like this was missing
I felt like this was missing something but it was delicious nonetheless! Hubby had seconds, and there's leftovers for me for lunch, but that's probably because the kids turned their nose up at it. Chicken is normally a winner with them, but they're toddlers.
Quick and simple to cook.
Quick and simple to cook. I have fussy children so I added honey to the marinade. cooked for ten mins like the recipe and added carrots and sweet potatoes to the second layer. Then cooked for an8ther ten mins speed 2 varoma. Used a bit of cornflour and some kecap manis to the leftover liquid, 100 degrees, speed 3, backward rotation for a nice sauce for mine and hubby. Great recipe !

First thing i tried in the thermomix. Decided to add 5 minutes at the end and glad i did, the rice was perfect and i used thigh fillets which are slightly more tougher than chicken fillets, came out beautifully. Lunch for hubby done and only the chicken for the kids sandwiches was perfect.

Loved the flavour. This was my first time cooking rice in the Thermo and it was crunchy! Not sure what I did wrong and my chicken was slightly over cooked from trying to get the rice soft. Next time will put chicken in server and will add more water for rice as I think that might be it. I only had 250g thought and upped the water already 1/2 way through. Love the idea or making a sauce as I felt it needed to be moist but still great recipe with beautiful flavours

Delicious! Big hit with the whole family. Unfortunately no leftovers for lunch tomorrow for me!
Super yummy, easy and quick.
Super yummy, easy and quick. I make a sauce at the end using the remaining water with a bit of cornflour and soy - a few seconds on 100degrees in the thermo and you have a sauce to go with the chicken.
I made this for my family
I made this for my family before heading out to dinner with friends. We added broccoli, carrots & zucchini. I was almost disappointed to be going out to dinner & missing out on it

Made this for dinner tonight. Was a hit with the kids and I loved that it was all done at once.
I put in 300g of rice, but only the 500g of water. Unfortunately alot of my rice was crunchy. So I think next time I will either just do 200g of rice, or up the water to 600g.
