If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Tip

Steel cut oats are different from rolled oats - they are grains that have been roughly chopped, so they take longer to cook than rolled oats. This makes a wonderfully filling breakfast, but doesn't make you feel weighed down.

I've tweaked this recipe to suit my preference for sweetness, and to cook without scorching the jug at all. Cooking time for larger amounts would have to be a little longer.

I like to serve it exactly as it comes, but you could also add fruit, or milk, or honey. I've added some sultanas in the picture - that was just to make it look prettier!

How would you steel cut whole oats themselves using thermomix? Steel cut oats are hard to come by where I live, but apparently whole oat grains are not.

Nice and creamy and didnt burn the bowl 😄. i used 1/2 cup oats (which think is about 80g) and took about 22mins. (An easy rule of thumb, if you're doing different quantities, worked out at about 4 quantities of liquid to one quantity of oats)

Thanks for the recipe. I made it for brekky today, but used half an apple and 1/4 tsp cinnamon instead of the dates/sultanas. Delicious.

  • I've lost count how many

I've lost count how many times I've made this recipe.  I add a pinch of salt to the bowl and also a dash of cinnamon either before cooking or sprinkle the cinnamon on top once cooked.

I have doubled the ingredients exactly to make enough for two people and cooked for anything from 20-30 minutes depending on the time that I have.  Works perfectly and brilliant for a ready to go breakfast.
