    Submitted by Stephclarked on 22. October 2014 - 19:13.

This was a hit with the family. I made a few small adjustments - omitted the egg (just because I forgot), added some sliced mushrooms and broccoli florets (next time I will add the broccoli in about 5 minutes after the rest of the ingredients) and I didn't add the salt (everyone just added it to taste). The other thing I did was pan fry the bacon for the first 10 minutes of cooking time and then added it in with 5 minutes to go. The pasta pieces got a bit broken up for my liking - I used penne - so I might pop the butterfly in next time to see if that helps.

    Submitted by sbatchelor on 14. November 2013 - 18:44.

Cooking 4 this recipe works well. I prefer not to are cream so substituted a can of carnation light n creamy (380g) plus  270g water to make up total fluid content of 650g and it worked great. Thinking I might adapt and use some mushrooms as well. I whisked egg in a small bowl and left the mc in so that it would drizzle into bowl.

    Submitted by 2isey on 29. October 2013 - 16:36.

Great recipe, surprised how simple it was to make, and how delicious it turned out. The only alteration I made was the addition of one onion, and less salt (as my toddlers were having it too) and I doubled the pasta (no alteration to the liquid amounts).

    Submitted by Teniele on 15. July 2013 - 17:07.

This is great! It's my 5yo's favourite dish.

I add an onion in when I chop the garlic.

I use curly fettuccine snapped in half and double the amount. Increase cream to 300g

Omit the oregano, salt and bacon as we are vegetarian. Instead I put mushrooms and greens either snow peas, zucchini, brocolli, baby spinach, or a combination.

I add Parmesan cheese when I add the beaten egg.

YUM!!! It takes restraint to not make this every week!

    Submitted by boyz_mama on 11. July 2013 - 14:10.

Anyone tried making a version of this recipe using milk instead of cream & water??

I made similar in thmx last night, by cooking onion/garlic/bacon and then a EDC Béchamel sauce + cheese... and mixed it all together... but I boiled the pasta on stove rather than cook it all together like this recipe because wasn't sure how it would go cooking in the milk. Any ideas ????

    Submitted by Margaritas on 23. June 2013 - 19:24.

I saute'd the onion, garlic and bacon for a few minutes then added everything. I set the timer for 14 mins added the egg and continued for another min. Then realised I need to add the egg at the 13 min point, oops! I did have slightly scrambled egg but after greating the cheese over the top the kids or Hubbie didn't even notice...

My fussy eater who turns his nose up to everything ate the whole lot! Thank you for posting a lovely recipe. Will deffinately make again, but will read the recipe twice before cooking!

    Submitted by Pontifek on 25. February 2013 - 23:12.

I thought I had commented on this recipe already but I'm going to again for reference. This is one of our favourite recipes but I double the pasta and maintain the same amount of liquid. I only add the egg in at the last minute. Have also used fettuccini snapped in half. Yum!

variation; used fresh pasta (fettuccini) and added only in the last 5 minutes. Also added chopped sundries tomatoes just before the egg. Maintained the liquid amount in original recipe. I do think that fettuccini works better then spiral or penne as it seems to hold its shape better.

Submitted by The Griff on 5. November 2012 - 18:30.

I had the same problem as Tracey - runny and scrambled, but I figure that's because I doubled the recipe (not sure if that requires double water amt too??) and should have let it cook a bit longer first and stirred in the eggs once the dish had rested a bit???... It went down, and I'll probably try again another time...
